Middlesex signs Gilchrist and awaiting Sachin's Decision! Cricket News: Middlesex has signed a brief spell of t20 cricket with Adam Gilchrist. They are still awaiting Sachin's decision as they have already approached Sachin for the same. Middlesex chief executive Vinny Codrington said: "Adam has signed for the group matches of next season's Twenty20 Cup but has other commitments and is unable to commit beyond that at this stage. We have been in discussions with Sachin and his agent for quite a while but he has been concentrating on the one-day series against Australia and the current Test match against Sri Lanka. He has been pretty tied up so we are awaiting to hear from him and hope for some news soon."

BCCI thwart Sachin's Middlesex plan? Shaun Udal, skipper of the English county side Middlesex has accused BCCI of trying to "scupper" their plan to sign senior India batsman Sachin Tendulkar for the domestic Twenty20 tournament. Udal said their effort to make Tendulkar play for their side later this year might end in smoke as a tournament was scheduled in the sub-continent in June, date of which clashes with the English domestic T20 competition. "We know he (Sachin) is very keen and basically he would love to come but the Board of Control for Cricket in India have not been as positive as Sachin would like," Udal told BBC Radio. "They're trying to organise a tournament in June of this year which might scupper our plans for Sachin. But he's got a house in St John's Wood, he's local to the place and it would be great for Lord's if we could get him," Udal added. Tendulkar last played in the English county in 1992 for Yorkshire when he was just 19-year-old and scored more than 1,000 runs with an average of 46.52. The off-spinner, who have already signed up Australian hard-hitter Adam Gilchrist, said Middlesex was "very interested" in signing up South African Mkhaya Ntini if the paceman make himself available. :woot:

Sachin Tendulkar has opted not to join Middlesex for this summer's domestic Twenty20 Cup, telling the county that the additional workload would place too much pressure on an already busy international schedule. It had been hoped that he would join Adam Gilchrist, who has already signed a contract with Middlesex, for the 2010 edition of the competition. "We are all naturally extremely disappointed that Sachin has reached the decision not to join us this year, as without doubt, his presence within the Middlesex ranks alongside Adam Gilchrist would have been a major coup for the club," said Vinny Codrington, Middlesex CCC chief executive. " "When the news initially broke that we were in negotiations with Sachin, it quite rightly created major headlines in all the sports pages, and it's a real shame we have been unable to reach a satisfactory outcome to our discussions with him. Sachin was very open and honest with us when advising us of his decision and he went to lengths to express how flattered he was that a club like Middlesex were so keen to have him on board. "Whilst extremely keen to join the club, Sachin felt he wished to concentrate his efforts on prolonging his international career at the top of world cricket, and believed that the additional workload of playing Twenty20 cricket in the UK for Middlesex this year would place too much pressure on his already busy cricketing schedule." Tendulkar, 36, also opted out of the tri-series in Bangladesh earlier this month in preparation for Test series against Bangladesh and South Africa. He gave up Twenty20 cricket at international level after just one match in 2006, but is captain of Mumbai Indians in the IPL. "We would like to express our thanks to John Stephenson, MCC's Head of Cricket, for all his help, and we wish Sachin continued success with India and our thanks go to him for giving the Club every consideration," added Codrington.
