nballa
Old timers should remember the guy. spinner who toiled for hyderabad ranji team for years, performed extremely well, used to read about him in newspapers all the time. what went wrong for him? feel pretty sorry for the guy, don't know what more he could have done. gave it his everything. instead we had scrubs like noel david, nilesh kulkarni etc get the honor of wearing the cap for the country. saneindian
The simple reason was that he couldnt do much in his younger days and produced his best only after he was 36-37. Started playing first class cricket in 1980 but the frst time he picked more than 20 wickets in a season was only in 1994-95 when he was 35 , back then the spin trioka of Kumble, Raju and Chauhan was ruling the roost and also we didnt play many tests either. After that he had two outstading seasons in 1998 and 1999, but by then he was already 39-40 and Bhajji, who was equally bowling well around that time was preferred (perhaps because he could bowl the doosra which Kanwaljit Singh couldn't). Sooda
Wonder if he had any A games to show how he could vs Intl batters. I do remember the name. Another guy called Ananthapadmanaban, who was a pretty consistent spinner for Kerala for a while. Link to comment
Vikas Bhatt
Best spinner never to play for India ever was P. Shivalkar of Mumbai. Tis guys finds high ratings from none other than Gavaskar himself. Unlucky to be playing at the time of Bishen, Venkat & Chandra. Another brilliant spinner who played for India but rarely gets a mention, credit or recognition was Subhash Gupte. Link to comment
Vikas Bhatt
And yeah Kanwaljit Singh was utter crap. Hirwani was too inconsistent. Link to comment
