Cheteshwar Pujara is the next Dravid in the making

I don't think being "next Dravid" is that easy. He has scored all these runs in India on the placid track against very average seamers. I'll be more impressed if he scores runs against international class seamers. The BP XI match was a failure for him a few days back against Steyn, Morkel, Parnell and co. Scorecard Secondly, I'd like BCCI to send an A team to Australia or SA or even England to get a clear idea about these front foot players. Till he proves himself there, I can't even dream of thinking him to be 'next Dravid". One thing he has proved is the ability to build long innings and have a superb concentration for long period. He has handled extreme pressure as well. All he needs is an opportunity to prove himself against better bowlers on tracks that are not entirely placid. Pujara - I don't have too much confidence in him. Yes' date= he has the ability to play long innings but his technique of plonking the front foot does not inspire too much confidence about his success at the international level. Perhaps he should look for a county stint or move away from the Rajkot patta he bats on day in and day out to develop his game further. LINK

I was looking at Pujara's stats and was surprised to see that he has scored nearly 65% of his total first class runs at Rajkot which is said tobe a true battinf paradise. His record away from that ground isnt very great. Also Pujara hasnt done much when selected for zonal sides or India A. Gradually he is improving and is surely on his way to bcome a permanent fixture in the Ranji side. At 21-22 he has age on his side and should be perfectly ready for intl cricket in 12-18 months and then look forward to have a 10-12 year successful run in the team.

I think he has right temperament. thats very important. He has scored runs on seamer friendly wicket too, just check duleep trophy game. he did score in 4th innings last year to chase tricky total. He should definately go to England for a stint.

Yes I dont know why he has not been given a chance yet, I'm a big Pujara supporter. I don't care what Chandan or Outsider says, get the guy in, he is a run machine.

Only three men in the history of cricket have scored more Test runs than Rahul but this guy is already the next Dravid in the making? Give me a friggin break. Yes, he has a good domestic record but who is to say how he will go against the world's best bowlers at Test level. Even if he succeeds at the highest level initially, it is a long way to becoming even a good Test batsman over a sustained length of time, leave alone matching an all time great like Rahul.

Badri has been in such foreign trips before and did well.

I remember following that series and if I remember correctly, it was played at Cairns and Darwin, the two places which don't have the same pitches as the traditional venues of other centres in Australia. Venugopal Rao was the most successful batsman and TP Singh was also very successful in that series. I remember, Misbah had hit a ton in one of the T20s. I think Sm33 meant A tours on the traditional venues where Test cricket does take place in places like Oz, SA or England.

Don't think they will be playing those matches at MCG, SCG. You only can play where you are asked to play. His India A record is phenomenal 10 matches 852 runs avge 213.00. 4 centuries 4 fifties.

good to hear that .. I wasnt aware that he had played abroad for India A before. Well he is getting his chance now ... it seems to be well deserved. One match is not nearly enough to know whether he belongs. Showed some good application even though shot range seemed very limited and seemed very jittery.

Yes on view he is not the most flame buoyant. He earned his place. I won't be surprised if he doesn't go anywhere at test level despite impressive first class record.
