EnterTheVoid Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 Rewind the clock to one year ago when these attacks originally started: Indian students in Sydney allege Lebanese youths attack them Sydney: Indian students alleged on Thursday that Lebanese youths were behind the racially-motivated attacks on them here as they took to the streets for the third consecutive night protesting against racial attacks. Scores of Indian students last night took to the streets of Harris Park in Sydney for the third consecutive night to protest racially-motivated against them by Lebanese youths. The protesters alleged that police were ignoring their pleas for protection. The protests came a day after prime minister Kevin Rudd warned Indian students against "vigilante action" to prevent attacks against them. Indian protesters continue to say that they were being attacked by Lebanese youths. A man, who took part in the protest, was issued with a court notice for carrying an offensive weapon after being allegedly found with a piece of timber during a police search. Meanwhile, Parramatta city council held a meeting with police, India's Consul General and members of Sydney's Indian community, with organisers saying students had agreed to stop protest rallies. Prime minister Kevin Rudd warned Indian students on Wednesday against "vigilante action", saying while violence in all Australian cities was "a regrettable part" of urban life, vigilante action was equally unwelcome. Superintendent Robert Redfern expressed sympathy for the students' concerns, but urged them not to take matters into their own hands. "I am not a fan of vigilante groups. I am not a fan of people taking the law into their own hands. That's our job," Redfern said. "The victims of crime that do occur in this area are not exclusively Indian, the perpetrators of those crimes are not exclusively Middle Eastern," he said. Redfern said he planned to meet with Sydney's Indian community leaders later this week. NSW premier Nathan Rees said a meeting with Indian leaders last week emphasised the need for everyone to keep a cool head and report any incidents to police immediately. "Police have escalated their presence and their monitoring of the situation in that part of Sydney, but everyone is to keep calm," he said on Wednesday. "There is no place for violence, there is no place for this sort of antisocial behaviour in NSW or Australia." "What I would say is there are mechanisms in place now for appropriate dialogue to occur," he said, adding "we'll be in ongoing discussions with the student leaders and community leaders." June 10 2009 By John FG McMahon Please be assured that the problem lies not with ordinary Australians but disaffected immigrant/refugee youth of Sudanese and Middle-Eastern origin. As the students have themselves described, their attackers are in the main “black men (Africans)” or “Middle-Eastern”. These immigrants/refugees have been warmly welcomed and embraced but they repay us with conduct such as this. One incident involved a Catholic nun walking down a Sydney street. She passed by two Muslim women dressed in their garb who turned on her, assaulted her, spat on her and tore the crucifix chain from her. So please ignore the media there in India who have no idea at all. Our media, because of political correctness, refuses to describe the ethnicity of the attackers. The Cronulla riots a few years ago came about with frustration by the locals with the lack of protection by the police from marauading Lebanese Muslim gangs who were brazeningly invading shops, restaurants, bars and cafes spitting and urinating on patrons and assaulting/intimidating all and sundry. One incident involved a young mother who had taken her toddler daughter to the beach. The toddler was playing in the water when a gang of these militants came up to the mother and demanded that she cover up her daughter who was wearing a regular modest bathing costume. She refused and told them to go away. They did but returned a little later with knives. The young mother fled with her daughter. A young fellow who had been away at sea for some weeks returned and was withdrawing money from a ATM. He was assaulted by one of these gangs and critically injured. He was repeatedly stabbed and the assault only stopped when the knife broke off in his back. These gangs hunt the streets at night looking for “skips”, their term for Australians. Now they have turned their attention to easier marks- students from India. My view is that these immigrants/refugees should return to their countries of origin and take their violent evil disruptive ways with them. Australia is a land of immigrants. I am second generation Irish-Australian. Everyone has assimilated. From Greeks, Italians, Lebanese Catholics/Christians,Russians,Eskimos,South Americans, South Africans (black and white), Mexicans etc etc all get along except for those from Muslim countries/areas. The Government(s), politicans and police are afraid to control these Muslims for fear of being labelled “racist”. This is the usual cry (yelp?) from the Muslims when they are criticized in any manner, rightfully or wrongfully. Link: No longer working This one from barely a month ago Truth Behind Indian Student Attacks in Australia Attacks against Indian students in Australia appear to be mounting, but is it all just media hype? How did it all start and what is being done about it? To answer these issues we look at what motives lie behind the attacks and try to find the real story of what’s happening in Australia. Indian students make up the majority of overseas students who come to Australia to study each year and the numbers are rising. There were 30,000 Indian students in Australia in 2004 and that figure has more than doubled to just under 100,000 in 2009. Some students come from poor, rural areas of India with a hope to gaining permanent residency in Australia. May in Melbourne saw four students attacked with a screwdriver by gatecrashers at a party and one Indian student was critically injured and robbed as he walked alone at night. In Sydney in June, Indian students took to the streets to protest against what they said was a rising spate of attacks upon their community. At the heart of their protest was the complaint that the police were not doing enough to protect them from these attacks. But were the attacks racially motivated? Well some of the attacks were by Lebanese nationals according to one victim Jimit Shah who claims he and his friends were attacked by men of Lebanese nationality who didn’t appear to have any motive other than violence. Since May there have been many other reports of attacks against Indian students. Some were robbery motivated and some were not. Australian officials claimed that students were not being attacked because of the colour of their skin and Julia Gillard, the deputy prime minister insisted that Australia was a safe place for all overseas students to study and live in. She even visited India with PM Kevin Rudd and the Victorian premier John Brumby to reassure the government and the people of India that they were doing everything in their power to ensure the safety of the 100,000 Indian students currently studying in Australia. The Federation of Indian Students of Australia are convinced that the attacks are racially motivated, pointing to a witness statement of the party in Melbourne who claimed that the attackers shouted racial abuse at the victims. But the Victorian Police Commissioner Keiran Walsh claimed that the majority of attacks against Indian students were opportunistic and motivated by robbery. He said that many of the students were attacked at night whilst they walked back to their campuses alone and he also stated that many students were in the habit of carrying valuable items with them such as mobile phones, laptops and i-pods. The attacks and the protests gained widespread media coverage in India with many national papers branding Australia a racist nation. Australian ambassador John McCarthy flew over to India to discuss the attacks with the government there and he refused to comment on a motivation for the attacks, merely saying that he had not seen the evidence that the attacks were racist. Prime Minister Kevin Rudd was also quick to condemn the attacks saying: “It is appalling in every sense. Any act of violence, any decent human being just responds with horror at the sorts of attack which have occurred recently.” The Indian Media was also accused of “hysterical reporting” by the Australian Immigration Minister Chris Evans. However the Indian media hit back to claim that Australia was being denialist. However, after the death in Melbourne last weekend of a young Indian national, the Indian government is now advising its students to take precautions against assault. And Australia’s High Commissioner to India Peter Varghese admitted that some of the attacks were racially motivated. An admission that is bound to sit uneasy with many Indian students. The NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research say that there has been no recorded increase in assault crimes in the Harris Park area of Sydney, a notorious spot for attacks. Yet Yadu Singh who is head of the Indian Student Welfare Committee said that many attacks were going unreported and he describes the attacks on Indian students as “curry bashing”. He also went on to say that the Indian Media’s reporting of the incidents was “irresponsible” and that many Australians were “outraged” with the way their country was being portrayed. He also confirmed that the number of Indian students dissatisfied with Australia was in the minority and that many of the students he had spoken with were happy studying in Australia and hadn’t encountered any problems at all. So what is the Australian government currently doing to protect overseas students from attacks? International education contributed 13.7 billion dollars to the Australian economy in 2007/08 so the government is keen not to discourage overseas students from applying. Prime Minister Kevin Rudd said that the “full force of law” would be used to protect students from attacks. Duncan Lewis, former head of the Australian SAS, has been given the job of co-ordinating a special taskforce to examine the attacks on Indian students and Australia’s response to them. The Victorian government is also considering bringing in hate crime legislation that could lead to stiffer sentencing for those found guilty of such crimes. Also the Ministerial Council on Education said it would crackdown on education and training providers to ensure they are prioritising student safety. So what is really happening? Well as the influx of Indian students rise in Australia, many students are being priced out of popular student areas and into less affluent suburbs where they compete for jobs and housing with low-skilled youths from other migrant backgrounds. So we come back to the first attacks mentioned which were perpetrated by Lebanese nationals. The big question is whether the government are doing enough to ensure the safety of the thousands of students who contribute to the economy of the country. But with Paris and other major cities all having experienced similar racial attacks and protests, Australia really is no different. It’s no more dangerous to study in Sydney or Melbourne than it is to study in London or Paris. What happens now is very much dependant on the government’s response. CSK Fan Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 Weell after all said and done, its the duty of the australian goverment and the Australian police to ensure that people are safe. Temujin Khaghan Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 actually whats wrong with lebanese. whats their problem?
kabira Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 Does it matter who is attacking? What are their plans to stop this? How can they run away scot free? Are they part of Mafia??
EnterTheVoid Posted February 15, 2010 Author Posted February 15, 2010 actually whats wrong with lebanese. whats their problem? They are known to make trouble. Look up the "Cronulla Race Riots"; Does it matter who is attacking? What are their plans to stop this? How can they run away scot free? Isn't it ironic that Australia opens its arms to everyone only for certain ethnic backgrounds to fight amongst themselves and the blame is pinned on "institutionalized racism";
kabira Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 ^ethnic backgrounds fighting? So Indian ethnicity is attacking too?
EnterTheVoid Posted February 15, 2010 Author Posted February 15, 2010 ^ethnic backgrounds fighting? So Indian ethnicity is attacking too? Indians have been formally cautioned about taking the law into their hands and carrying out vigilante attacks in retribution.
Desi Cartman Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 Sree you are so wrong on so many fronts that I dont know where to begin * Indians were warned not to create teams to work as watchmen on the stations where these attacks were happening. * Corunulla riot was an organized hate attack on Non whites. I know what were the supposed reasons behind it but it was an organized riot which targeted all NON White immigrants. * Aus is not REALLY welcoming to refugees or even Indians. They allow people in Aus as per their needs. As for refugees do you really want me to point out how pathetic our behavior is ?
achilles Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 Weell after all said and done' date=' its the duty of the australian goverment and the Australian police to ensure that people are safe. If they had taken strict action against the first few attacks and handed heavy punsihments the subsequent ones wouldnt have happened[/quote'] Exactly. About time the Australian government got accountable. Coz if they don't we are not short of options to go abroad. Australia isn't the No.1 study destination for Indians and rather than crying daily and blaming the Indian media, it would've helped if action would've been taken. I'm sure even bradman99 will agree with me on this. :icflove: You don't find it ironic that the original attacks were carried out by one type of immigrants against another ? Yes. And I refuse to buy it. Could've been one sporadic incident or so, but it seems to be fashionable to paint the whole wall with the same color. First, it was the Victorian Premier who tried to portray that all Indians fake racial attacks instead of saying, "This was just one incident where it happened". I don't know what world these politicians live in and why are they scared to accept that racial elements are present in Australia! And not every Aussie is racist. Majority of the Aussies came out in support of Dr.Haneef, when a stupid Kevin Andrews (the then Immigration Minister of Australia) justified his arrest and even refused to apologize when the judiciary and the Australian public asked him to. Where is basic courtesy gone, Moronic idiot! :finger: what a joke .. now blame the ipod carrying Indians and lebos I'm just waiting for something equally absurd to come out next. And I'm sure the politicians there won't disappoint us :hatsoff:
EnterTheVoid Posted February 15, 2010 Author Posted February 15, 2010 * Indians were warned not to create teams to work as watchmen on the stations where these attacks were happening. I don't dispute this at all. * Corunulla riot was an organized hate attack on Non whites. I know what were the supposed reasons behind it but it was an organized riot which targeted all NON White immigrants. No, I dispute this, it was originally an attack on the Lebanese but unfortunately anyone who looked Middle Eastern got caught in the cross fire. * Aus is not REALLY welcoming to refugees or even Indians. They allow people in Aus as per their needs. As for refugees do you really want me to point out how pathetic our behavior is ? That can be used to describe any country, its only natural to expect them to look after the own interests first.

No, I dispute this, it was originally an attack on the Lebanese but unfortunately anyone who looked Middle Eastern got caught in the cross fire. So its ok to organize an attack on Lebanese\Muslim population .. It was ok to talk it up on 3AW radio and send msgs that " Lets bash wogs " That can be used to describe any country, its only natural to expect them to look after the own interests first. I never said that they shouldnt .. just wanted to prove that its something for mutual benefit else they would have accepted all refugees ..
