seedhi Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 Nine Indians dead in huge suicide attack in Kabul At least nine Indians were among the 16 people killed as Taliban suicide bombers carried out a string of attacks in the heart of Kabul, in yet another incident targeting Indian interests in Afghanistan. The bombers struck at a number of guest houses, particularly at Park Residence, rented out by the Indian embassy for its staffers and those linked to India's developmental work in Afghanistan. Describing it as a "heinous terrorist attack," External Affairs Minister S M Krishna said as per the preliminary information provided by Afghan Government officials, "up to nine Indians... have lost their lives." "A few Indians have been injured, most of whom are reported to be out of danger. Arrangements are being made for their adequate and expeditious treatment, if necessary, by evacuating them to India," he said in a statement. The Indians, who died in the incident included embassy staffers from consulates in Herat and Kandahar, a member of a medical mission and Government officials, embassy sources said without giving their identity or breakup. They said 12 Indians were also injured in the attack which also killed an Italian diplomat, a French tourist and a number of policemen. Why do we need to help them with electricity and other projects when there are power cuts all over India...let's focus on making things better at home! India's influence works opposite to Pakistan's with respect to Afghanistan. We dont want a jihadi breeding ground there, nor do we want Pakistan's influence to rise. Another Kandahar wouldnt be welcome either. Lets not forget, which neighbor recognized the Taliban 'government' in Kabul along with UAE & Saudis.

There are weekly blasts there and a lot of people lose lives in Pakistan. It doesn't get reported much in our media.

Because if it isnt then it is equivalent to saying that pakistan is paid back by the 1000s of people dying in road accidents as well. Which is just silly. As far as I know the attacks in pakistan are being carried out by the TTP and Lashkar-e-Jhangvi which have nothing to do with India. To be fair I believe that RAW does strike sometimes, but its frequency has to be increased along with the severity of the strikes.

Unlike India I doubt Pakistan cares as much about its citizens. If they did surely they would not be making the same mistake over and again. In the current scenario I suppose what India can do is to keep helping Afgans build their infrastructure and minimize Pakistan's influence. Also Indian contigents should start getting more security around them. Often it seems like these are sitting ducks.

It sounds similar to their blaming RAW/Mossad for everything evil in their land. However, there still is some suspicion on ISI since it deals with the Army on a direct basis and not the democratic leadership in Pakistan as far as i know. Thats unlike the RAW, which works under the PMO.

Just like every citizen expects the govt to protect them from terrorist attacks regardless of whether they themselves are in the police or the IB.

Such policies have been used in the past, particularly in the late 80s and did indeed, to some extent, force pakistan to lay off the khalistan issue. It is also an empirical fact that an unstable pakistan is better for Indian security interests. And frankly, pakistan is teeming with people willing to blow themselves up. So why not use them to keep the pakistani pot boiling. I am actually confident that some of this is already going on, perhaps the intensity should be increased.
