Oh by the way, Murali Karthik certainly is today's Bedi. As far as can be. He is the world's best left arm spinner - by a distance. And to the Vettori fans - I am sorry, but he is the world's best defensive left arm spinner. Beyond perfection for limited overs matches. But once the batsmen start defending and building innings, he is ineffective.

Rangana Herath is much better, imo. Everyone seems to forget him when talking about spinners. Anyway, Misraji plays for Haryana which is a Plate League team. Not Delhi..

Rangana Herath is purely one dimensional when compared to Murali Karthik. Karthik's arm ball is a thing of beauty. Herath's is visible out of the hand - even to us TV-folks :). And oh yes, thanks for that correction on Mishra.

Thats not his real 'arm ball'. Its just a silly imitation of Mendis. What he has is excellent variation of pace (and that includes a quicker one that skids on) and a very good stock ball (better than Karthik's imo). And yes Karthik's arm ball is amazing but I havent seen him beat the outside edge with raw turn and bounce too many times (even in county cricket) and thats why I'd rate Herath to be better.

And just to play the devils advocate, I could throw in Paul Harris in there as well. A decent argument can be made that no-one can do his role more effectively and while he's not the best to watch, he's been key to SAs success.. Highest ranked left arm spinner at the moment and in the top 15 (used to be 5 or 6 a couple of months ago).

That is a 2 finger ball from Herath. Good variation he got. But first and foremost requirement of a left arm spinner is ability to flight and turn from leg to off against a rightie. Ojha does that very well. He uses his height very well and toss it up. He has that typical left arm spinner's loop and drift. It may not be in the class of Bedi or even Dilip Doshi. But it definitely is better than many left arm spinners going around.

f.b.m - you probably need to watch a few re-runs of Karthik bundling the Aussies out during his 6 wicket haul conceding almost nothing. Believe me, the kind of turn and drift that Karthik gets is beyond Herath. Herath is a different kind of bowler though. Problem is he always comes wide of the crease and therefore spears it into the batsman (right handed). I have a problem with this kind of approach. The trajectory itself is substitued for drift. Whereas real drift needs to be derived out of the action itself - not the angle of your approach to the wicket. Not saying the other approach cannot be successful. But as you know it has limitations. Herath also is slower through the air - making him a difficult bowling choice for the captain in today's day and age. The game has moved on and left the real slow bowlers behind - sadly. Still, Herath is by no means down and out. As far as I can see, Ramesh Powar is simply beautiful but our selectors dont have faith in him. What is more - they insist senselessly picking him for limited overs assignments whereas he has a Test match frame of mind.

Paul Harris is an excuse of a left arm spinner - with all due respect. He is a defensive bowler. His height does not help him one bit. If you want to consider him, you could even consider Suleiman Benn. These bowlers cannot flight the ball. It just keeps on descending. Not too much of a problem for the batsmen. Good players of spin will gobble them up. Sorry but Paul Harris is certainly not a decent argument as far as a good left arm spinning choice is concerned. :)

All that you say about Ojha is true. But see, his action is just not seeming legitimate. He has a vicious straightening of his left elbow - especially when under pressure. That is just so sad. Not that they are going to call him or anything though. More is the pity.

None... We just don't have the proper bowlers to restrict any side on a challenging day of cricket. I must also admit that our bowlers have their good days as well but the lack of consistency keeps them from becoming a great bowling panel. Zack, Nehra, Praveen are all hugely talented but they just do not perform on every given opportunity.
