After that disgraceful defeat in 2008, I had no hope of India touring that place for a Test series again before Sachin's retirement. I'm really glad. We'll get the chance to win a Test series in S.L. and later this year in S.A. (we haven't been able to achieve it either). The only country left is Australia. Hopefully, we'll get the chance in 2011.

I just hope they start the transition of our Test side soon. Would love it if Dravid retires this season. It would be a disaster if all the big guns go together. I think the BCCI seriously needs to start the process soon. I don't know why Ganguly was asked to go so early if they are going to let Laxman and Dravid play on forever. They had a good opportunity when Dravid was out of form for almost years..until he hit form recently. They should learn a thing or two from their own policies in ODI when they took that daring step by dropping Ganguly and Dravid in Aus 08. It might be a set us back in the short term but we need to look ahead.

:hysterical::hysterical::hysterical: We still haven't been able to get half decent replacements for Ganguly and Kumble and you want Dravid and Laxman to be dropped as well!! Transition will progress once decent replacements are found for Ganguly and Kumble and then progress to Dravid and Laxman.

I would have agreed about dropping Dravid if you said it back in 2008. He was horrendously out of form from September, 2006 till the end of 2008. But last year he was magnificent. And I'd like team India to keep getting his services for at least another year.

Anyways most of us tontee-tontee fans are also test fans against good opposition on good wickets. Just that we can hardly watch 5 days of cricket and have to just manage a few sessions here and there and hope that the missed sessions aren't the important ones.

Anybody would be fine. I'm just stressing on the need to find the replacements asap. I'm aware of the fact that Dravid and Laxman will offer more than any other batsman we may try at the moment..but surely it would be worth it to try the leading domestic players or if that doesn't work out then leading ODI batsmen. Because the way things are going at the moment I see Dravid, Laxman and even Sehwag( he told recently he'll retire exactly after 100 Tests) leaving the scene together. Its better that the new comers have Sachin, Sehwag and one of Laxman/Dravid alongwith them than being part of a team bereft of all of them. As far as Ganguly's replacement goes..I think we need to come to terms witht e fact that Yuvraj has claimed that spot. I don't agree with it but I don't think BCCI will replace him soon(loos like they are content and willing to give a lengthy crack at it). Besides if you take a look at Ganguly's contribution during the last fewseries he played..he only contributed in Home matches. The away record wasn't anything to boast about. Had a poor series against Aus, SL. So in that sense perhaps you could call Yuvraj a like to like replacement?

Anything would be better at the moment. Need a sense of direction as to how our batting unit is going to look 5 years down the line.

I started following cricket from 1996, and from 1998 onwards Test cricket has been my first love. Make no mistake, I did and still do love ODI cricket, but Test cricket for me has always had something extra. T20 is good to make a quick name for yourself and earn a call in the national side (Y. Pathan). But significance wise it's a big fat obese ZERO!
