kabira Posted December 5, 2006 Author Posted December 5, 2006 Re: Will you have this guy in your team >lol... Ganguly is amazingly talented.... he jus didnt work on the mental part or he would have become a really great cricketer... he was called the God of the offside..... he has 10000 runs in odis at 40+. doesnt matter, we are talking about Test cricket...He has an average record....he debuted with Rahul and look how far behind he is...He just had great determination and attitude to make it big on big stage... Similarly, Steve Waugh started as an allrounder...look at his intial record..he was just an average cricketer...But he with sheer single mindedness and determination, he developed skills to face deadly windies attack...Compare to his twin brother, he was less talented..but he finished greater than his twin brother..
gator Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 Re: Will you have this guy in your team doesnt matter, we are talking about Test cricket...He has an average record....he debuted with Rahul and look how far behind he is...He just had great determination and attitude to make it big on big stage... exactly the opposite... Ganguly was the talented one and Dravid was the one with mental toughness.... thts why Ganguly has a good test record and Dravid has a great test record.... Similarly, Steve Waugh started as an allrounder...look at his intial record..he was just an average cricketer...But he with sheer single mindedness and determination, he developed skills to face deadly windies attack...Compare to his twin brother, he was less talented..but he finished greater than his twin brother.. same as the previous comparison... mark waugh is ganguly and steve is dravid.... so the conclusion should be, if u have lots of talent, it is easy to average 40+ in tests... if u have great mental strength on top of tht, u will get to 50+.... now Kaif has only mental strength and tht too, not on Steve or Dravid's level... so he will be 30+ average cricketer..... and y would u want tht in ur team..... i take it, tht u were not aware of the hype around Steve's talent in the mid-80's... jus cos of his talent, he was backed by AB inspite of his initial failures... i have read his auto-biography "out of the comfort zone" and u would know why he was selected to the team 3 yrs before mark was selected..... at the FC level, they spotted precocious talent.... he himself admitted, he developed the mental strength later to score those big hundreds..... and it paid off, cos they backed a talent at tht time....

First time in his career, Kaif got full series..and he averaged 60+....30 more than what you expect... >exactly the opposite... Ganguly was the talented one and Dravid was the one with mental toughness.... thts why Ganguly has a good test record and Dravid has a great test record Dravid hardly had mental toughness.....He missed quite a few hundreds...took him while to score his first ton...But that experience made him stronger...
yoda Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 Re: Will you have this guy in your team So, who took Kaif's place? Dinesh Karthick. He averages 18.84 in 10 tests.
gator Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 Re: Will you have this guy in your team Dravid hardly had mental toughness.....He missed quite a few hundreds...took him while to score his first ton...But that experience made him stronger... how do u judge mental toughness entirely based on whether a batsman can convert a 95 to a hundred? this sounds dubious to me.... similarly Kaif was touted as next big thing in late 90s...along the lines of next Azhar .......infact he used to bowl useful leggies...if you see U19 WC... it is very simple, kaif's talent is not enough for the big league.... it is not a big deal.... better late than never..... but it is a grave mistake comparing him to legends like Steve or Dravid....
kabira Posted December 5, 2006 Author Posted December 5, 2006 Re: Will you have this guy in your team >how do u judge mental toughness entirely based on whether a batsman can convert a 95 to a hundred? this sounds dubious to me it was not only one 95...he was getting out in 80s and 90s consistently....its called nervous 90s..isnt?? so cant you say he was not mentally prepared to score 100s..?
kabira Posted December 5, 2006 Author Posted December 5, 2006 Re: Will you have this guy in your team >t is very simple, kaif's talent is not enough for the big league.... it is not a big deal.... better late than never..... but it is a grave mistake comparing him to legends like Steve or Dravid why do you say that?? Based on what?? If Kaif's talent is not enough..who is the replacement??
Sooda Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 Re: Will you have this guy in your team >>he is average and does not deserve a place cos u r trying to put together 11 most talented cricketers in the country No youre trying to put together the 11 BEST players. And Kaif on recent test record is very much part of that 11. Ganguly who averages 30 in his last 10 tests isnt really. But I can take the fact that hes there based on what hes done for us in the past. No way should Kaif have been dropped. We will never know if he wont rescue India as many times as Waugh has Aus because we arent allowed to find out. Typical facked up selectors chose to drop him after the best series of his life. Had Yuvraj been fit would he (average in last five tests-19) been in the test squad- YOU BET. Its based on pure talent eh?? Almost like number of runs made notwithstanding

Based on what?? If Kaif's talent is not enough..who is the replacement?? by bothering to look a lil outside the stats-box....if someone cant stand and be counted in international cricket, it will be visible to the naked eye.....
Dhondy Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 Re: Will you have this guy in your team Can somebody please tell Ravi that I can't post on lots of threads, for example on any of the Lurker threads!
kabira Posted December 5, 2006 Author Posted December 5, 2006 Re: Will you have this guy in your team >by bothering to look a lil outside the stats-box....if someone cant stand and be counted in international cricket, it will be visible to the naked eye arent you suppose to score runs if you are batter..and thats why you are int the team..Does it matter how you score them?? Your sole purpose is to score runs..If you do not, you fail, if you do, you are success..Isnt that the criteria?? He averaged 60 odd in last 5 games..only dravid has done it better...
gator Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 Re: Will you have this guy in your team thts cos of 148 not out on a patta track where 2 others scored centuries as well.... why dont u furnish ur stats without tht.... he averages 25 in 13 test matches after 6 yrs of international experience, no centuries and all the tests in india and SL..... now debate tht....
kabira Posted December 5, 2006 Author Posted December 5, 2006 Re: Will you have this guy in your team >why dont u furnish ur stats without tht.... he averages 25 in 13 test matches after 6 yrs of international experience, no centuries and all the tests in india and SL..... now debate tht again you are missing the point...He got one full series and he delivered... 6 years of experience...but none in Test...13 Tests in 6 years...how do you expect to rate a guy who plays once in a while due to injury to our main batter... Infact he scored quality 91...not on a flat wicket...all our high class and talented batters had succumb to Hoggard/Flintoff show....and than he was dropped... Infact even Laxman has similar record..He was forced to open...Now once he was made regular in Test team, batting at number 3 or 6. He delivered and became consistent... You are just too biased towards Kaif.. I agree he should be dropped permanently from ODIs...he has nothing to offer...But tests he should have been in squad... Btw, you did not tell me his replacement?
gator Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 Re: Will you have this guy in your team yuvraj, when he come back from injury..... till then VEnu mus be given a chance..... u r going on and on about kaif's 91 against hoggy and co..... VENU scored an unbeaten 200+ at a terrific SR while chasing a 4th innings total of 500+ against 2 90mph pace bowlers Simon jones and Sajid Mohammad..... Kaif can only dream of matching tht feat...
gator Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 Re: Will you have this guy in your team 6 years of experience...but none in Test...13 Tests in 6 years...how do you expect to rate a guy who plays once in a while due to injury to our main batter... ok, he scored one century on a patta wicket in 6 yrs of test cricket..... u wanna say thts cos of lack of continuity or watever.... how do u explain 7 centuries in 8 yrs of FC cricekt.... oh wait, he prolly needs more chances....
jf1gp_1 Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 Re: Will you have this guy in your team I just looked at the recent ODI averages and in the last 10 ODIs Kaif has a higher avg than most of the batsman including sachin. Dravid's is the same as kaif and Dhoni is the only one who has a higher avg. btw sehwag avr around 14 he is the one who should go. I think the real reason why kaif has been left out is his ODI strike rate. When sachin scored 55 in little less than 100 balls it was termed as returning to form but had Kaif done the same he would have been pointed out as the man who lost us the 5 ODI.

Kaif can only dream of matching tht feat yes venu should be in team....he will succeed or not, we dont know...nobody can predict with surety, his 200+ doesnt matter...when he wears Test cap, its totally different...Is he capable on big stage..thats the question no one can answer... My only problem is on what basis Dada is back...and also Dinesh Karthik...Kaif and Rao should have been there...
kabira Posted December 5, 2006 Author Posted December 5, 2006 Re: Will you have this guy in your team >how do u explain 7 centuries in 8 yrs of FC cricekt.... oh wait, he prolly needs more chances how many first class games has he played??

kabira Posted December 5, 2006 Author Posted December 5, 2006 Re: Will you have this guy in your team >atleast we know, Kaif didnt set the stage on fire. what is your defination for "stage on fire"
