Cricket Australia agrees to BCCI's request DNA Correspondent / DNA Saturday, June 5, 2010 Mumbai: The Board of Control for Cricket in India is working on the dates of the home matches against Australia but it is likely that some matches of the high-profile series will clash with the dates of the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi. “We have requested Australia to play two Tests and three one-day internationals instead of a series of seven one-dayers,” the BCCI’s chief administrative official Ratnakar Shetty said. The dates for the series are expected to be finalised by next week. Australia are due to arrive in late September and must be home by October 31. The Commonwealth Games take place in the Capital from October 3 to 14. When contacted, a Cricket Australia official said his board, in principle, has agreed to tweak the series. “We have said we are happy, in principle, to discuss playing Tests if that is what India so wishes,” Peter Young, CA’s communications manager told DNA. He, however, was not sure when the dates will be out. “I don’t think James Sutherland (chief executive of CA) expects progress before next week.” Young said the announcement should come from the Indian side. “James and Michael Brown, our head of cricket, both firmly believe this is India’s series, not ours, and we have suggested to media they stay in touch with the BCCI as the body which should be making any announcement or holding the public discussion about the details of the series.” Tour itinerary for India v Australia October 2-6 First Test - Mohali October 10-14 Second Test - Bangalore October 19 First ODI - Kochi October 22 Second ODI - Goa October 24 Third ODI - Vishakapatnam

When playing the major teams like Aus and SA, a three Test series should really be a minimum, but hey, something is better than nothing! Thank goodness we don't have another meaningless seven game ODI series as well.

Having never been to india but I'm sure it would be the same here in australia. The test series surely will have more interest from the people than the B grade olympics. When the B grade olympics were last in australia I barely watched any events on TV and certainly wouldn't waste my money going to them when there aren't the best athletes in the world competing but a test series between these 2 countries I would have gone to if on at the same time.

I can't find on any australian website or newspaper where australia have agreed to play tests. It says and australian official has agreed but it doesn't say who. You wonder if the indian board just made it up to put pressure on australia to agree.

"If wishes were horses, beggars would ride". Test matches don't generate revenues now a days to help run the Cricketing World. ODIs help to bring in the 'bred & butter'.. Test matches are like retired people living on pension. You need younger lot (ODIs) to work hard and 'support' the family which includes retired people.

Sorry for bringing this up again but I've spoken to a few people and australia have not agreed to play tests this year in india and most certainly won't agree to it.
