rkk101 Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 World Cup 2011 Hi just joined the site and was hoping some people could answer a few of my questions. A group of frienda and I have managed to buy some tickets for 3 of Indias matches next year in Bangalore, Nagpur and Delhi. We will be travelling over from India and would welcome some advice having never watched a game in the sub continent before. 1) Can u buy or bring alcohol into the ground(s) ? 2) Im assuming that given that the matches finish late into the night that it will still be warm at that time. 3) should we be wary about mozzies in March ? 4) any other useful advice would be welcome. Thanks in advance
The Outsider Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 1) Can u buy or bring alcohol into the ground(s) ? No, you can't bring any - and by that I mean any. You can't smuggle it in a Coke bottle or something because everything is going to be thrown out at the entrance. Yes, you can buy in some sections of the stands. 2) Im assuming that given that the matches finish late into the night that it will still be warm at that time. Delhi and Nagpur will be reasonably warm by the time of the WC. It's always advisable to carry a light jacket in Bangalore, because it can get quite chilly unexpectedly if there is some rain in the air. 3) should we be wary about mozzies in March ? Not otherwise, but the floodlights on the grounds attract all kinds of bugs, so wear some adequate clothes or at least carry them. I would advise against wearing shorts regardless of the heat.
dial_100 Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 damn, Nagpur stadium is awesome... I will definitely watch SAffy game if I get to go.
Gunner_Mania Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 No' date=' you can't bring any - and by that I mean [b']any. You can't smuggle it in a Coke bottle or something because everything is going to be thrown out at the entrance. Yes, you can buy in some sections of the stands. Can you? I thought Alcohol was not available in any Indian grounds during cricket matches. May be other than the corporate / executive boxes, but I thought even that was not during the game.
rkk101 Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 This is gonna be a drag..I only hope the tickets I have allow us access to the areas mentioned by other posters. I believe the best way of enjoying cricket is to sit in the sun, with some "dubba" getting slowly drunk...ahh well lets see how it goes. have tickets for Ireland, Nland, and Safrica...question now is British Airways or not British Airways!!

Fly Air India. Get used to Indian hospitality before you reach India :winky:
rkk101 Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 British Airways are the only company that fly direct to Bangalore from London. Any other company involves stops in other cities, and as the amount of time we can take off from work is limited need to be able to fly dirct into Bangalore. Planning to stay at St Marks Hotel there, anyone know it ?
Tendulkar_Bhai Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 hey thought would resurrect this thread, i had the same plans as Sachism but want to see India in the final and can only take 2 weeks off work and the gap between the last group match and the final is more than 2 weeks so have decided to take the risk and buy semis+final tickets and then luckily the IPL starts only a few days after so see some of that (if i stay in mumbai i will get to see Tendulkar one way or the other!). I followed when group tickets were available and alot of the matches (bar England v India) havent yet sold out which is surprising. They still havent announced when semis and final tickets will be coming out but i am checking on a daily basis and am confident of getting some if i try on that day. Does anyone know what semi final India would be in? Havent yet checked. Can anyone recommend any good agents to book internal flights, as iv been advised tht directly with kingfisher + jet airways is expensive. Also last yr IPL tickets were easy to buy online.
dial_100 Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Can someone tell me who will be playing Ahmedabad game. I thik it will be QF game.

Also considering passing through Bangalore, but is it worth stopping over? hmm... i see that you taking 2-3 stopovers to reach the destination point for many of the venues...why not straight to the point of interest. Are you looking to do some site seeing along the way i.e flight from Ahmedabad to Amritsar and then to Mohali (that's quite a distance) .I think you can probably have direct flight from Ahmedabad to Chandigarh...unless ofcourse you are wanting to do some site seeing at the stop overs. Look's good though, you'll have quite a experience with that itinerary. Well worth it IMO Btw, does this come in a package or you still have to do all the scheduling by yourself? :two_thumbs_up:
Gunner_Mania Posted September 10, 2010 Posted September 10, 2010 ^ I think the Gujju boy is using Ahmedabad as his base and doing a self schedule:)

Ohh is Amritsar really that far away from Chandigarh, looked kinda close on the map :P Also things aren't finalised, its just what we'd like to do. Yeh planning on some sight-seeing, etc. Not too much, but if we have time check out what we can coz don't know when will be next time I visit some of those places
