Qualification expanded to 20 teams for twenty20 world cup in 2012

The qualification for the 2012 World Twenty20 cricket has been expanded to 20 teams. Previously, the qualification tournament has involved six or eight teams and resulted in Afghanistan and Ireland playing along elite nations in this year’s World Twenty20 in the West Indies. “A new and expanded global qualification system will be established to give the ICC Associate and Affiliate Members a distinct pathway towards the ICC World Twenty20,” the ICC said in a statement. So, now the qualification tournament will be expanded into a 16-team competition and will take place in early 2012 ahead of that year’s next edition of the World Twenty20 in Sri Lanka. The exact details of the regional qualification network are yet to be announced. Meanwhile, the ICC has pledged $2 million towards major cricket facilities developments in leading associates and affiliates in partnership with members and third-parties after a meeting in Jakarta. “These are two extremely exciting, strategic and encouraging developments for the future of our great sport,” Lorgat said in an ICC statement that was issued from the governing body’s Dubai headquarters. Yeah..ICC wants atleast 1 tournament every year but they had to adjust their schedule properly, so we had T20 WC last year and this year. Currently, the schedule looks like, 2010-T20 WC 2011- ODI WC 2012- T20 WC 2013 - Champions trophy 2014 - T20 WC 2015 - ODI WC On the other hand, with all these useless games in World cups, i am really losing hype for it. 2011 WC has just 7 very important games thanks to their horrible format. Everything else is padding up for viewership.

true. sub continent countries with sub standard facilities seem to always get the tournament. i think CA don't actually want to host it, otherwise they should have held one of these pointless tournaments by now.
