this is all part of a process of growing up . there have been many incremental improvements to his games in each phase.in the 2005-2006 period, his backfoot game was nonexistent. in each ipl , he showed his vastly improved ability for offence improving each year. in the final vs SL this year, he showed he can nudge better like the seniors and he had expanded his range of shots to a mature level. this made me predict that he will join the seniors in year or so. certainly this innings is the one that convinces me he is not a junior anymore.

He only scored a handful of runs in that match, but the way in which and another wicket-keeper batsmen with a long mullet called MS Dhoni handled the pressure and closed out the match told us the Indian team had found two wonderful gems. We have seem ample evidence of that time and time again. But he has atoned for his sins with his performance today. :D

Those two are good examples, but even then he was still boy The first one he did it with Dhoni, so he was not alone and second one was batting first, Great innings but still he did not graduate to manhood.Today he did. Odds were against him, Pakis on the high, No recognize batsman left. Took on their best bowler..... Yes he is finally here. We never doubted his talent.

Lol, you obviously didn’t see his knock in the finals dude. Or even if you did, you weren’t paying too much attention. Everything that you described about Raina so far – Maturity, responsibility etc- he totally embodied it in that innings. It is, without a shadow of doubt, one of the standout ODI innings played by an Indian batsmen. That last knock against Pakistan pales in comparison mainly coz, he did what any top-order specialist batsmen should have done in that circumstance, which is to close out a game with 50 runs needed off 7 overs, with 5 wickets in hand a power-play to boot.

On the topic itself, Raina is an extremely under-rated ODI bat. Most Indian fans recognize his worth, but if you ask any opposition fan to rank their top 10-15 ODI batsmen of the world, he will almost certainly not figure in that list. But you also get a sense that when Raina’s in the middle, the same oppositions fans also get slightly nervous, coz they realize this guy wont go down without a fight. Unfortunately, he has much maligned by the fact that he got dismissed by the short-ball on a couple of occasions in world-stage tournaments, as though it is second nature for all other batsmen to hook 90 mph bouncers into the next zip code.
