well raina is the only player quality player which we have got through ipl,i say that becoz before the ipl he was in that cb series squad also but didnt got a game and while playing the ipl he discovered his aggresive self that to clear boundaries with ease and one more thing that he has enjioyed the support of his captain and he has not let him down hope he continous to play like this also in future

So many such "todays" have been proclaimed by people wrt to Raina in the past... To me, this transition is not a result; its a process and the time when he becomes consistent, he can certainly be applauded adequately...

Not really. his transistion from a good ODI player to a great ODI player happened already, during the india-sri lanka-bongladesh tri series played a while back. he scored a brilliant hundred in the final to bring india back from the dead at 60/5 to a competitive score of 240. i am absolutely amazed by how calm he was. india needed 48 off 28, and he showed no nerves. even played a dot ball with forward defence when they needed 9 off 10...that showed you how comfortable he was, while all the pakis and other indians in the pavilion were *****ing their pants.

From cricinfo(CT 2009): Saeed Ajmal to Raina, OUT, really quick delivery, almost a yorker gets Raina who is not too pleased. He reckons there is some inside edge. Pad or bat first. First quick replay is not too conclusive. He was trying to dig it out and it hit both bat and pad. What did it hit first? Will confirm after replays. Huge wicket. Raina was playing very well. This fascinating game continues to see-saw. Replays in. Tough to call here. there was boot, bat and ball all close together! and then the bat and pad jammed almost simultaneously. Very close call .. Bob Willis reckons there was no boot and it hit the bat marginally ahead of pad. Not every one is sure. Very tough call.

I think then he got dropped, and got some major knee injury where he had to undergo surgery and was out for months. It is at this time that he built up his body and came back with incredible upper body strength. I remember seeing him in IPL1 and going WTF! this guy is built like a brick. Took some pics and posted here as well. His sixes were huge, and before that the Raina we knew was the one with the silky cover drives and deft touches.(like in the innings with MSD that you highlighted). I think THAT (IPL1) was the turning point in his career. The world (including his captain MSD) took notice of him there... Ofcourse, having his head in the right place helped... Those two are good examples, but even then he was still boy The first one he did it with Dhoni, so he was not alone and second one was batting first, Great innings but still he did not graduate to manhood. Today he did. Odds were against him, Pakis on the high, No recognize batsman left. Took on their best bowler..... Yes he is finally here. We never doubted his talent.
