Mahela is the new Bradman

His exploits outside Sri Lanka are overshadowed by his outstanding performance in home conditions.. specially if ur not a Sri Lankan fan, it's very natural to forget some of those great knocks. Mahela has scored hundreds in every test playing country accept SA (his highest was 98 out of 216). You can say he has played so many years to do that but he got much lesser opportunities compare to some of the other batmen in his era. For example in his 14 year career he only played 4 test in AUS, 4 in NZ, 5 in SA. Most of those series were two match series which is very difficult to adjust.

He averages 41 outside Home. Played 7 against England still avergaes 42. Played 9 against Pakistan and yet the same average. Then how do you judge the "Greatness" of a Batman ? :dontknow: Going by your Logic even Indians should Call Sourav Ganguly a great Test Player.

Even that world record partnership 624 (also the first-class record) came after SA were bowled out for just 169 in the first day (yes Murali was not the only striker, seamers got 6 wickets plus SL lost both openers in the same day). May be you are the only one to say that, He got good enough oppurtunity against England and Pakistan away. Still he couldnt do much. He is never in the class of Ponting , Kallis, Smith, Sehwag, Dravid. He is Good but not great by the yardstick all great players are judged. Let him prove himself away from home first then we'll accept he is a great player. EDIT : Unless a player proves himself away from Home he can never be named in the same bracked as the above names. Now thats my opinion and Offcourse you have your views which hardly any will agree with.

I personally Rate Sanga much ahead of Mahela anyday. He has been Sri Lankas best batsman away from home.

^ In certain countries only. Sanga was rubbish in Eng and India. Mahela saved a match in last Eng tour.. top scored in both innings.. also he was the captain. It's interesting to see his away batting record as a captain. I guess it's better than overall performances.
