Mahela is the new Bradman

Well half of him when playing @ SSC. Mahela just broke the Don's record of most centuries at a single venue; the Don scored 9 centuries @ MCG from 11 tests while the great Mahela now has 10 centuries @ SSC from 23 tests. Mahela did acknowledge Don took 10 games to get there while he took twice as many. His overseas record might not be that great but he still is one of the better batsman going around in the world. To top it off he has the same Sri Lankan humble attitude. At the end of the match he said he wishes he could bat like Sehwag and score all his runs quickly with fours and sixes. Despite his form and his recent hundred he is very humble.

Some are, some aren't. They are captained by Whinga Sanga. Although, i suppose its very hard to get 10 100's in 23 tests, most of the players dont get to play 23 tests in a single ground. Apart from Sri lanka, BD and Pak players, the rest play their home games in atleast 5 diff. grounds with Indian players playing in over 15 grounds.

Well thats because SL play Tests on basically 4-5 grounds.Australia play Tests on 6 grounds only.While on the other hand England, India and others play on more than 12-15 different grounds.We don't have players who has played 15 tests on the same ground and hence you will not find an Indian in the list. But seriously 9 hundreds in 10 matches at MCG is far more superior to make any comparison with 10 in 23 games and that too on a deck that is just "Paata" for batting.MCG is not at all a batting paradise.So i don't want to compare the two records, it has come in two different eras from two different type of batsman.

Mahela is a better player than he is given credit for outside Sri Lanka. The guy is really classy. After Aravinda the finest batsman to come from this small nation. I am amazed at how much talent comes from a country so small in comparison to ours or, I wonder, we have a problem tapping all of ours . . .

Mahela Jayawardene is a very talented player. But he is also very frustrating to watch or depend on. Not quite on the Hooper scale. But you get the idea. Although lately he has been improving, throughout most of his career he has had very poor temperaments and some of his shot selections in crucial moments have really let him and his team down. His statistics though wont show this. And SJS - oh yes, we have a lot of talent which is untapped, to be sure!

People still remember players like Aravinda, Mark Wahgh just because some of their great innings and not based on their stats. Likewise Mahela is still not too late to come-up with few great knocks under tough conditions so people will remember him as a great player.. but for me he is already a great. :hatsoff:

His exploits outside Sri Lanka are overshadowed by his outstanding performance in home conditions.. specially if ur not a Sri Lankan fan, it's very natural to forget some of those great knocks. Mahela has scored hundreds in every test playing country accept SA (his highest was 98 out of 216). You can say he has played so many years to do that but he got much lesser opportunities compare to some of the other batmen in his era. For example in his 14 year career he only played 4 test in AUS, 4 in NZ, 5 in SA. Most of those series were two match series which is very difficult to adjust.
