Sachinism Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 England had a secret weapon for today’s first Test against Pakistan that is set to revolutionise the way batsmen prepare for games. Hidden in a corner of the National Performance Centre in Loughborough is the ‘ProBatter’, an extraordinary bowling machine imported from America to be unleashed on the cricketing world. It was given its first work-out by England captain Andrew Strauss this week, as he used a unique method to prepare for facing Pakistan at Trent Bridge. The ProBatter uses Hawk-Eye technology to replicate the exact delivery of any bowler in the world, and produces an image of the bowler running in at the batsman. ‘This will take practice up to another level,’ said ECB batting coach Dene Hills, who sat quietly operating the computer. ‘This machine has been in use in baseball for 10 years. Before the Ashes, the guys will be in here facing Mitchell Johnson, which can only help them when they encounter the real thing.’ To enhance the experience, England turned the heat up to replicate the Australian climate and pumped in loud music by Australian rockers AC/DC to distract the batsmen. There is only one snag — the Aussies have a machine too, so right now Ricky Ponting could be facing Stuart Broad in his garden. Virtual Tests anyone? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/cricket/article-1298528/Revealed-England-use-ProBatter-Andrew-Strauss-big-hit-Ashes.html#ixzz0vRnqF2kI ---- That would be awesome, get to face up to exactly what the bowler is delivering. Though I don't know how it would deal with swing, pitching and seaming or a spinner drifting it and then turning
Holysmoke Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 :punter: will be preparing to face the machine to counter andersons swing :hehe:
Lord Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 sounds interesting, but dont think it'll work.ball coming out of bowler's hand is defintely harder than it coming out a machine.i'd rather have a domestic bowler with similar action than this
IKnowU Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Imagine them practicing to our rockstar trundlers :rotfl: :band:
Serani Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Imagine them practicing to our rockstar trundlers :rotfl: :band: Nah they can get pretty much any decent club trundler to bowl at them in the nets to simulate that.
