zen Posted August 7, 2010 Posted August 7, 2010 On Mishra, the guy scored 40 runs in Ind's 1st inning and then picked up 3 wkts in SL 2nd inning .... As far as I am concerned, he did play his part and deserves some credit. Not to forget he has been in and out of the side
thevortex Posted August 7, 2010 Author Posted August 7, 2010 man you are delusional. If he did not get chance to take single does not mean he was shielding. If he was shielding why he got single at 46.3 against Ojha?? Any idea man?? in 53rd over he got single of second ball. As I said you make no sense at all. First you should watch the game not look at the cricinfo commentary. Again if we agree it was mistake. it was not a Big Blunder. Makes sense? Not a Big blunder. 46.3 Ojha to Samaraweera, 1 run, stretches forward to dab it bad and pad through unmanned short-leg region 50.3 Ojha to Samaraweera, 1 run, leans forward and flicks it away to vacant spaces on midwicket for a single. 53.2 Ojha to Samaraweera, 1 run, flighted full around middle and off, Samaraweera on drives to long-on Two slips in place Get down to brass tacks and decide what it is that you want to say. First you went on repeating your claim that Mendis was not shielded. Now when I give you Mishra's figures you sing a different tune? And remember once the first few overs are gone, the batsmen's comfort factor is much higher. So what matters is how it is started. Perhaps for the first 4 or 5 overs. That is all. And FYI - I always watch the game. Not the Cricinfo commentary. That commentary was for your reference. Just to remind you that you were down the wrong path. By the way, I think I have got to be glad that we are now discussing about this being a mistake or a blunder :). Cheers, Kabira.
thevortex Posted August 7, 2010 Author Posted August 7, 2010 much ado about nothing I know. That is what the Indian media would want to say. Why should we have to toe their lines? Remember we wont be saying its much ado about nothing if the result turned out differently :).
saneindian Posted August 7, 2010 Posted August 7, 2010 So bowling a guy who had bowled 7 overs for 2/16 in his previous spell was a blunder!! And had we not started with the two spinners on this track with sharp turn and good bounce, then we would have seen another thread "Not starting the post lunch session with the spinners was a major blunder".

Like I said, if ever there was a case of statistics being a damn lie - just take a look at Mishra's figures in this Test match.
DomainK Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 The captain makes several plans. Some of them work, some of them dont. Dhoni is known for innovative and out of the box thinking and in such cases, when it goes wrong, it can look very stupid. I will accept these bits of failures with the success.
saneindian Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Like I said' date=' if ever there was a case of statistics being a damn lie - just take a look at Mishra's figures in this Test match.[/quote'] Mishra took 3 wickets in that innings, icluding 2 wickets in 2 balls, thats good enough I guess. For someone struggling for rhythm and confidence in the 1st innings, that was a very good comeback in the 2nd innings which contributed well in our win.

Bowlers getting them or batsmen gifting their wicket. Another reason could be due to wrong reasons. Another reason could be due to an erroneous decision. If you watched the action unfold during this Test you would know how those figures of Mishra evolved. Numbers can and do lie.
Manny_Pacquiao Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 you know what would have been a major blunder? playing munaf patel instead of Raina. :winky:
thevortex Posted August 9, 2010 Author Posted August 9, 2010 Who knows, Manny? Maybe he could have picked up a fiver :) Cricket was and still is a funny game.

Fair point, but IMO cricket is all about scoring runs and taking runs. How the wickets were taken or how the runs were scored is immaterial. Give me a bowler who takes 3 "undeserving" wickets every test rather than a teachnically brilliant bowler who cannot pick those 3 wickets.

It is the batsmen throwing those wickets. There is a difference. You cannot really depend on your opponent. You would much rather depend on your own team mate, will you not?

Man I don't know why you are stuck. Even if you consider it as a mistake. it was not major. He only got 4 overs and gave away 12 runs same as Ojha. Mendis only faced 7-8 deliveries and that did not change the game at all.

He only got 4 overs and gave away 12 runs same as Ojha. Mendis only faced 7-8 deliveries and that did not change the game at all. This is the problem, Kabira. Would you say I was stuck if India had lost the game? Every little thing would then be analyzed and then overanalyzed. Lets not make the mistake of reading the game wearing the spectacles of victory. That is not going to give you anything. If a move is wrong, it is wrong. This time it may not have resulted in a defeat. There is no saying that this luck will continue. A good coach would definitely have had a chat with Dhoni about this. That is all.
