The partnership between VVS Laxman and Sachin Tendulkar was an example of class and enormous experience, which helped them grind under difficult circumstances and flourish at the end. The performance of Laxman and Sachin has sent the message to all those who talk of age, which unfortunately is an issue cropping up in Indian cricket time and again. It is time for those who talk about it to keep quiet and judge people only on performance. Laxman (36) and Sachin (37) can bat and score runs in all situations and conditions. We must remember that such players don't come always, and so it is better to enjoy their quality. India should not have allowed Sri Lanka, from 87-7, to reach the score they did. Had the result gone the other way, they would have been repenting. The Sri Lankan bowling, without Murali, will find it difficult to get 20 wickets in Tests. The Lankan captain and selectors need to address this issue quickly. For India, Sehwag, Sachin and Laxman were outstanding with the bat, with Sehwag being the best and the most significant contributor. A special mention must be made of Raina. He stood tall and, with such outstanding batting partners in Sehwag, Dravid, Sachin and Laxman, he will go from strength to strength. India managed to finish the Test series well and will go confidently into the tri-series. Although there will be a lot of changes, the squad should be good enough to match up to Sri Lanka and New Zealand, the two other contenders.
