When there's rain, D/L could play a role and it was not at all a bad decision to bowl first then. And of course were thought to help bowling a little. Hell, it even rained later on but it was too late by then.

The there are at least 4-5 tests that I watched live from the stadium (vs Aus 2001 at Mumbai , vs NZ at Ahmedabad 2003, at Bangalorevs Aus 2004-05, vs Pakistan 2005 Bangalore to name a few) , tests which we could have won with better field placing especially with the opposition under the pump, but either lost them or drew them from a winning position due to poor tactics (or rather the complete lack of tactics).

And what about the pak match? I am not blaming Ganguly for those losses. But IMO we have never been a team that consistently plays as per a tactical plan. Our players blossom when allowed to play their natural game and that has got us where we are. And thats where guys like Dada and Dhoni , who lead as per their insticnt have been successful. They have let the youngsters in the team play as they want helping them maximise their potential.

If ponting is beter than Waugh. Then offcourse Dhoni is. Still if Dhoni manages to even 'Draw' against Saffers i would rate him ahead of Ganguly.

It is not all about world cup wins. Kapil has one more world cup than any Indian captain. Doesn't mean he is the best Indian captain ever till someone comes in and wins 2 world cups. We are talking overall test record here in the context of Indian cricket given the players both have had.

Dhoni is not yet ahead of Ganguly IMO. But he is much beter leader when it comes to leading from the front. I tactically keep Ganguly ahead. Dhoni needs to do what he was initially before 2010. Then only we can call him the best. Till then he was my Fav captain. And i rated him ahead of Ganguly.

No he is not the 'Greatest' by any means. I rate Sourav ahead of him. A Captain is as good as his team. Sourav never had 'Great' Openers. Nor we had good bowlers ( P.S : By good bowlers i meant Dhoni had Zaka nd Ishant in Top form for most part of his captaincy) Now that Ishant is not that good we can see Dhoni losing few matches. Tactically Sourav is ahead IMO.
