Sanjay Manjrekar is wide-eyed over India having drawn the Test series against the mighty hosts Sri Lanka.

Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar is surprised that India were able to draw the series against Sri Lanka despite not having the adequate bowling resources. “I never imagined that India will do so well. With Zaheer Khan out and Harbhajan Singh not fully fit, it was always going to be a tall order for them. That’s why the win at the P Sara Oval tells you more about the character of the team than the ability,†Manjrekar said. The ESPN STAR commentator said Team India should be proud of having tamed the Lions in their own den: “Over the years, Sri Lanka’s batsmen have been consistent in putting big totals on the board at home. And then bowlers take centrestage to rattle the opposition. Prior to the series, I thought India would have the same fate and with a depleted bowling attack there were certainly no chances of their winning a single Test. But they have surprised me, I have to admit. They must pat themselves on the back for doing what many thought they were not capable of doing,†he said. Manjrekar said it was on the second day that the Indians brought themselves back into the match. “The Indian bowlers bowled really well on the second day, especially Pragyan Ojha. And it was surprising to see that no Sri Lankan posted a big hundred. Thereafter the classy Indian batting took over and the team never looked back from there,†he said. The 45-year-old Mumbaikar also said a great many good things about the Very Very Special Laxman. “Incredible thing for someone who only plays Tests. It’s never easy for a batsman to come out after a long gap and bat brilliantly like he did. You have to take your hat off to him,†he said. However, Manjrekar set forth a clarion call to the Indian bowlers for improvement. He said they can celebrate for the time being but are far from effective and will have tougher times against stiffer resistance.

Not that I like Manjrekar but how many expected India to draw 1 - 1 ? Heck, ICF was a whinge fest with people complaining how we will lose, how we are not good enough etc etc

i expected india to win 1-2. 0-3 before all the injuries. and the end of the day, 1-1 is a good result given the circumstances
