b555 Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Not in the good books of the selectors' date=' like Murali Karthik, S Badrinath and the likes.[/quote'] :fail:
achilles Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 What we need is Yousuf Pathans sloggability (though he admittedly is not a great bat) with Jadejas miserliness with the ball rolled into one player Is Ashwiin a possible India cap? Is he a slogger or the quiet kinds?
Sir john Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Is Ashwiin a possible India cap? Is he a slogger or the quiet kinds? he is like mathew in batting in bowling like malik:hysterical::hysterical::hysterical:
Zap_Brannigan Posted August 17, 2010 Author Posted August 17, 2010 Ashwin looked very for CSK and he bettered Murali and was one the key reasons we won the IPL. But so too was Murali vijay who bettered Hayden. We all remember how that turned out. So i will remain cautious till we see him play. He is not a true allrounder but more of a bowler who can bat but judging from jadeja's ODI career, its what he is too. Ashwin should have a go but still that wouldn't solve Indian's #7 problem as i believe we need a batsman who can bowl a bit.

No.7 has to to a player who can bowl well for 10 overs not a bit and batting will be a bonus. It was not long ago where our biggest weakness was the 5th bowling spot and we are doing well to solve it. Jadeja has also not done very bad with his batting. He has made some useful contributions and if you want him to show more batting, we should send if him at the top order like Irfan in his early career.

We can and should get a few overs in with Raina, Yuvi and Sehwag which means the 5th bowling option needs to be just a bit better than these guys. Besides batting at #7 more or less means just a few overs unless the entire top and middle order flops. So we need a big hitter. Jadeja is not good enough to come up the order in front on Ghambir, Raina, Yuvi or Dhoni.

I would rather have someone who can regularly give 10-0-45-2 than 5-0-25-1. Cuz for the part timer, it really depends on the situation, if the opponents are in pressure, they will have good stats and if not, they can really go very wrong. Also, Jadeja is the only one among the spinners atm, who can bowl 10 overs well. Bhajji is moody and very inconsistent. I will not lie about his batting, he is not a hitter at least not yet. However, he can bat, there is no doubt on that. And if we see history, usually when we perform well, we bat really well and do not give the 7th batsman much to bat. Similarly, usually even when we had performed well with the bat, we had lost the match with the bowling. A 7th batsman will only act as a bonus in the indian team while the 5th bowling will help decide the winner.

I would rather that all ODI teams go in with 7 regular batsman esp for teams with long tails like India.
achilles Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Why don't we seriously consider bowling Sehwag and Yuvraj in tandem as the 4th-5th bowling options and pick, say Robin Uthappa or Yusuf Pathan as a #7? We could play an extra batsman if Viru and Yuvi can have a go regularly, along with some help from Raina.
