You are allowed but its a vaguely followed law. Generally, umpires are very lenient on one-off wide balls in tests.But when the match is on the line and if the batting side is looking to win in the last few overs of the game, they call wide closer to ODI standards. It may be legal but not moral in sports to pull something like that. Remember, back in 70s, the English bowled very few overs on the last day to deny us a victory. Cricket laws are not perfect and as such not all possibilities are written law. So we expect players to follow a unwritten moral code in times like these. So some actions may be legal but they are not moral.

I'm not defending that.ofcourse it was low.but atleast Gilly could've tried to hit it if he wanted.evverybody knew what Hoggard was doing.so Gilly could've responded by taking off stump guard r something, the main thing is there was still opportunity for the batsmen to gett runs,too risky but it was there.in Randiv's case Sehwag couldnt do anything

For me, as a fan, the apology was enough. It takes guts to accept what you did and come forward and apologize and I appreciate Randiv for that. For SCL, however, I can see why they dont want to move on with that. When a captain asks a player to do something unethical and then tries to wash his hands off and put all the blame on the player, it's definitely not acceptable to the team management. This is not the first time Sanga has acted like an idiot on the field and SLC has been quite tolerant so far. Now he has reached a tipping point where the management has to be strict and tell him that there are lines he can not cross.

Suraj Randiv has been suspended by Sri Lanka Cricket for one match following the no-ball controversy that marred the finish of the match between India and Sri Lanka. His match fees for the game were also forfeited. Tillakaratne Dilshan was also punished for his role in the incident, and he too lost his match fees. Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara has been advised to ensure that such incidents are not repeated in the future. With Virender Sehwag on 99 and India one run away from victory, Randiv bowled a big no-ball that denied the batsman a chance to get his century. Sehwag initially reacted in a sporting manner but later said Randiv had done it deliberately. Sehwag also speculated that Randiv was acting on orders from senior players in the side. Kumar Sangakkara, the Sri Lanka captain, denied playing any role in the incident and said he hoped it was not deliberate. Though Randiv later apologised to Sehwag, SLC instructed the team management to probe the incident. Following the enquiry, Dilshan's role in the incident has come to light. Good to see SLC taking action. I'm sure the Sri Lankan cricketers are as shocked as their fans, coz they thought they can get away with anything they do. I'm feeling a bit sorry for Suraj, for his image has taken a major beating at such a nascent stage in his career. But bowling the ball was his decision. Hope he gets over this incident soon and that this punishment teaches him a few virtues of playing cricket.

Sanga gave away 4 byes off the first ball. then, just after the 3rd delivery, he said in sinhalese-" if he hits, he gets the run". next delivery Randiv bowls a deliberate 'no ball'. if that is not clear about his complicity, what else you expect? it is an entirely other matter that, Dilshan went the whole way and explicitly mentioned " if you want , you can bowl a no ball" in sinhalese too. imagine what would a rookie bowler do, if his captain and senior player tells him these things when he has to bowl the 4th ball? after all the scoop of stump mike translations, Sanga still maintains that it is a greay area, he is not sure. oh, what a liar, what a liar! defending the indefensible and expecting people to believe him...:finger:
