Dhoni is a great batting talent and exceptional under pressure especially in ODI. What a stupid thread, one of the worse iv seen recently.
Care to elaborate? Comparing two cricketers on a cricket discussion forum, the cheek of it.

A big debate over this isn't really necessary. Both are good Test match batsmen, Prior in particular has improved a great deal since entering the set-up in all facets. No idea why he was cast aside for Kieswetter in limited format when he's far superior. Neither are really good enough to bat top 6 consistently, or at least haven't proven it. Would suggest they're on a very similar level.

When we toured England in 2007 at that time both dhoni and prior used to wobble a number of deliveries... Ian chappell also pointed this out then... since dhoni has improved a lot in terms of keeping... considering that he has to keep on dust bowls , still he did well with the gloves during the australia and new zealand tour.....proir remind me of a gaol keeper who is ready to dive full length to whatever is thrown at him... his leg side collections is pretty much poor... in terms of batting... agreed that prior has had a pretty decent average... but you cant discount what dhoni has done.... he has bailed the side out of trouble on many occasions and we have all listed them out in a separate thread......add to that the captaincy thing.... all in all dhoni IMO is a better pick on any given day....

prior has moved ahead in tests in the past few months for sure. dhoni needs to get his approach right, his modified odi approach wont work for tests. he has to go for his shots

Yes inspiring captaincy today, starting with Raina after the lunch break when India had a chance but no he relieved all the pressure. Then his keeping, what a sumptious leave from a Broad edge, really the kind of keeping that makes you sit back and go wow.

Given the fact he had a 3 bowler attack you wouldn't know why he made the decision. Did it occur to you that Ishant may have been a bit tired or maybe struggling a bit physically and that's why he was forced to go with Raina? Oh by the way Dhoni hasn't lost a series in more than 3 years. I wonder how come England didn't achieve the feat?

Prior is exposing Dhoni's mediocrity one day at a time - by the end of the series even the most ardent nationalists would think twice before whispering Dhoni and Prior in the same breath.

Yep, Prior's Test game has really come on over the past 12 months, while Dhoni's has slipped a little. Prior does look a seriously classy player these days, fair play to him.

We will definitely wait for end of the series before making the judgement. Not the first time Dhoni has been written off.

Prior was the original iron gloves- the English media used to laugh at him. he's worked on his keeping, but it's his batting that really commands respect. Dhoni, well, he's put on weight, and is probably not as fit as he should be. Too much cricket. Make no mistake though, he'll save India's bacon at some point in this series. he's mentally as tough as they come. Oh, and he drops tough chances, not the regulation ones.

Dhoni hasnt exactly been written off' date=' its just that he is not as good as Matt Prior, no shame in that.[/quote'] Wow you determined that from a grand sample of one Test which is not even finished yet :omg:
