hitman1980 Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 So guys wht u make of dhoni's performance in last ODI i.e final with SL .. is he just a tuk tuk batsman with wrong image of big hitter .. He was literally not able to hit any ball and can't even get a single .. I have my doubts abt tht innings .. Basically wht he was doing is .. wasting 3-4 balls and take a single .. And rest balls r wasted by tailender .. See this issue is.. RS got out in 35th over .. At tht point Dhoni had scored 44 of 59 balls (SR 74.57).. In total he scored 67 of 100 balls .. So he scored just 23 of 41 balls (SR 56.09) after RS got out .. Tht too in a situation where we needed quick runs .. He infact dropped his scoring rate when we need to up it .. So he was taking the strike but not scoring runs .. Did he forgot how to bat in tht period of time (like some curse of Parshuram to Karna ) I am not convinced tht evrything was right .. it do seems something is wrong .. Just go through the last 15 overs ... http://www.cricinfo.com/sl-tri2010/engine/current/match/456668.html?innings=2;page=1;view=commentary
Roshanrocks Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 yea.. there is also another angle... did the team play the way it did to protect jadeja? the 7th batsman rohit did nothing.... so it can be argued that the 5th bowler is more important than the 7th batsman. so jadeja is important to the team. :--D :P am jus kidding...obviously
gaurav92 Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 It's not a nice thing to say even in a joke. Exactly. Hitman, it wasn't easy yto bat out there, that can be seen from the fact that the entire team collapsed once the ball got older and softer. These Lankan tracks are not ideally sutied to chase under lights, so it was really tough. And mind you, just one bad series doesn't make him a Tul Tuk player.I know about the transition in his game from a swashbuckling hard hitter to a much subdued and calm nudger. But when team needs a step on the gas, he is also one of those who can press the accelerator without taking much risks. He has a very calculative mindset, but unfortunately for us, we kept losing wickets and there was no one to support him. So my advice would be to close this thread for the time being :D
Lord Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 this the first match of the series he dropped Jaddu for n still u guys r doubting him:hitler:
ZodiaC Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 this the first match of the series he dropped Jaddu for n still u guys r doubting him:hitler: He played to lose this match for cementing Jaddus spot. No Jaddu = No win :giggle:
achilles Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 See, Dhoni got to 60. No one in the team even touched 50. So the first impression he makes is of being the highest scorer in the game from our team. Being "mature and playing according to the situation" are terms synonymous with Dhoni. I however think there are blatant loopholes in this description when the team is in a situation where they need the settled senior pro to take the attack to the opposition. I've consistently observed Dhoni taking singles even in slog overs and giving the strike to the new batsmen in the middle to slog it out when it should actually be vice-versa.

hitman1980 Posted August 30, 2010 Author Posted August 30, 2010 but he wasn't even scoring ... and he wasn't denying singles till the last 1-2 overs ..

The absence of a genuine slogger does hurt our prospects and I guess Dhoni knows that. Hence he persisted with Yusuf for a long time. We hardly have any slogger in the middle and lower-middle order and singles can't win you games all the times. Raina isn't a slogger and its not fair to him if we ask him to turn into one. The key his asking him to play his natural game. Ditto with Virat and Rohit. Yuvraj is woefully out of form and I guess the only slogger in our team a.t.m. is Harbhajan Singh which is quite shameful for a country like India. Dhoni should atleast TRY to slog sometimes as we all know the outcome of depending on the likes of Ravi Jadeja, Praveen Kumar, Ashish Nehra and Ishant Sharma to do the same.

I'm sure u remember Dhoni's innings wen Sachin got 200.it wasnt that long ago
Lord Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 but he wasn't even scoring ... and he wasn't denying singles till the last 1-2 overs .. yes he wasnt.but he was trying u could see.he just wasnt in great touch..
achilles Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 I'm sure u remember Dhoni's innings wen Sachin got 200.it wasnt that long ago Many people are going to take this with a pinch of salt for I made a generalized statement in the admissible and broader sense while you picked one game to stand against it.

The Dark Horse Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 May be Dhoni shud hav gone for the full monty, we had nothing to lose at that point of time...but cant complain..
ZodiaC Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 wen u say Dhoni has quit slogging 'completely' when playing for India' date='one game is enough to counter it.btw, there r more like his 100 v Aus,50 odd v Lanka[/quote'] Yup.. He should for gods sake stop playing for averages.. Didn't even manage to get 4s in the PP overs.. I mean what the.. The game was almost lost unless dhoni went for it.. He had no other option but to take that risk.. So why on earth did he try to defend till the runrate went totally out of control like say, 12 or 13 rpo? Couldn't quite digest it, TBH. Even Jaddu woulda tried to slog in such a situation IMO.
yoda Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 what kind of a BS thread is this? if any thread deserves deletion (not just closure), it is this one.
