Again you misunderstand me. I am absolutely fine with Sachin the way he is and I have mentioned he will always be in my All Time World XI but I am simply responding the OP who says that Sachin not performing under pressure is a myth - pls do read OP's post. I disagree and put forth my argument. I suggest again that you read OP's post along with my posts.
ok i agree to disagree with your opinion. there was a time i too thought the same, that he cannot handle pressure, but then i realise the way he leads his life, so un-cluttered, so cool, so mindless of the incredible pressure indians put on him, and how he is able to balance it all,, and i think no.... its not pressure.... its something else... may be lady luck dosnt want him to have it all , may be lady luck cannot let him have it all, so with all the talent all the gifts..... he has been given a fault... a sort of reverse pandora's box, thats my "out of the box" view on tendulkar.

I tend to agree... there are some guys who are simply unlucky - similar to Misbah-ul-haq :) Everytime that guys was in a close finish Pakistan lost the game :--D At the same time you have to admit that Sachin sort of under-performs when under the pump, be it for whatever reason, and that's why I say that no. 5 on OP's list has some merit to it. I have been a fan of Sachin all these years and there was a time in 90s when I used to switch off TV and stop watching the game as soon as Sachin got out but at the same time I can't hide from the truth and claim Sachin not performing in crucial/pressure situations is a myth. No matter what the stats say, we've seen Tendulkar play for 20 years now but have you ever felt good about India's chances with Tendulkar in the middle in a tight contest with India chasing a 4th innings target or in a odi. Tendulkar nearly gets you there but someone better be there to finish things off :winky:

So you bring ODIs again into the equation after admitting that an opener is not expected to finish things off in ODIs? Way to go, very Butt like. Now here's some stats for you thanks to Bossbhai India has only successfully chased 200+ 8 times in the history of cricket. Thats right, its been only 8 times they have done and not the dozens of time you thing some of your pressure players have helped India win. Out of those 8 times, Laxman has stayed not out with one unbeaten 100s and 1 50+, Sachin has one unbeaten 100 and an unbeaten 50. Dravid has one unbeaten 50. Sehwag does not have any unbeaten scores. Now these are the actual facts and not something you 'feel'. What do you say to that? Who stays till the end and finished it? Do you admit that Sachin has done it better than Dravid and Sehwag and equal to Laxman? I repeat the fact is, a failure from Sachin makes much more news than success. VVS, Dravid etc have failed multiple times in similar situations but their play is never questioned. Sachin has reached such a legendary state that we actually report each of his failures as a shortcoming and his success (like an unbeaten 100 in the highest run chase in India) as par for course. On the other hand we celebrate the success of players like Laxman, Dravid and Sehwag and completely ignore when they fail because we don't have unrealistic expectation from them in the first place. Dravid failed in this chase, he has failed multiple times recently, have we ever questioned his game under pressure? no, because he is not Sachin. But one Sachin failure and you will milk it for all you are worth

So UG, how come you 'feel' Dravid will take you over the line more often than Sachin when he has done it only ONCE? How do you 'feel' Sehwag will do it better than Sachin in guiding the team to a 4th innings victory when till date he has 'NEVER done it?

This match against Aussies is the perfect illustration of the point I made... Sachin was the highest scorer for India in the match (98 & 38) and India definitely wouldn't have won without his contribution but as soon as the pressure of chasing appeared Tendulkar got out, and it was Laxman who had to win it for India.
So pressure got to him only after he scored 38? :giggle:

I know :WTF: We were getting easy runs. The partnership between Laxman and Sach was 41 from 6.1 overs. It was just a brainfart from Tendulkar. That's all. The shot wasn't there. P.S I still don't know why Sachin didn't learn from the previous match. Remember, Sachin was dropped by Jayawardane while going for the uppercut.

Its just luck that Sach gets out so often in these situations or probably he tries too hard to win on his own. He was looking very good today, but again, this is why many fans complain. What I dont understand is why dont they look at the brighter side. He gets you so many runs (what if its in the 1st innings, imagine our team score without his 98). He scored the max runs for our side in the match.

Reminds me of a story I had heard in childhood. A fool was traveling to the city and his mom had packed 7 idlis for him. He got hungry on the way and started eating. He kept on eating and his hunger was sated only after he finished the seventh one. Then he started crying. When passer byes questioned him why he was crying, he said that it was the seventh idli which had sated his hunger and if he had eaten it first, there was no need to eat the other 6 idlis. some of the fourth innings logic seems the same to me

i agree sachin played a very poor shot yesterday. he is the greatest batsman of all time, but does not change the fact that under critical pressure situations he has failed more often than he has succeeded.

That is true for every batsman in the world.

Good one, My two cents. I feel the same about this 2nd innings business.
