Is this the "greatest" rivalry of modern game ?

Indo-Australia rivalry ever since the historic series in 2001 has been the epitome of competition in test match cricket. Imo, India is the only team that Aus. feared even during their reign over world cricket. Something about Aus, always made India raise its game. In 2003 we should have won the series hands down especially the way we dominated the sydney test. The 2004 defeat was I think deserving. We lost to a great side which had learnt from its previous mistakes in India. They beat India tactically. Again we should have atleast drawn the series in 2008 in Aus, had it not been for Bucknor. We more or less dominated the following home series which marked the end of Aus. era and maybe start our dominance. I don't think we have played that well since that series and we have take the foot off the peddle. On the series, I am just hoping that India hit the ground running and not lose the first test again and look for comeback. I think Indian players will have to show more hunger if they are to beat Aus.

Ashes,for a very long time , had only one team dominating. It's only after the 2005 Ashes that some competition was imbibed,though the immediately next series was lost 5-0 and they went on to win the next won. So,in a way Poms need to prove their worths down under which the Indian team has managed. If you are talking about rivalries from a historical point of view then I would agree with the assessment of RoRo,but purely on the basis of the quality of Cricket played I think Ind-Aus has provided a better spectacle.

Australia is sticking to the Ashes because they know they are gonna dominate. With India theyll just say its good test of their skills.

Ashes had been top one sided till lately. As for Indo-Pak, for all the hype, there haven't been that many good test matches over the years. With Aus., there is also a bit of needle in the match which makes it doubly exciting to beat them
