Not entirely true. For the first part of the match, yes the crowds were very sparse. But later on, especially the 5th day the atmosphere was electric with plenty of fans showing up and giving voice.

True. But one also has to bear in mind that the aussie team under Waugh didn't know what it felt like to lose the ashes. There are lot of careers riding on this year's ashes

The England and Wales Cricket Board has appointed former Test star Graham Thorpe as national lead batting coach. He takes over the position from Dene Hills, who leaves after two years to return to Australia to take up a position with Cricket Australia. Hills had worked closely with players on the England performance programme. Former England captain Graham Gooch is expected to remain as coach to the first-team batsmen during this winter's Ashes series in Australia. Thorpe, 41, scored 6,744 runs at 44.66 in 100 Tests for England and spent 18 years as a first-class cricketer with Surrey before moving to Sydney in 2005-06 to coach New South Wales. In 2009 he returned to Surrey to take up the position of batting coach at The Oval, and also coached the England Lions batsmen on their tour of the United Arab Emirates earlier this year. The ECB has confirmed Thorpe's first task will be to work with the England performance programme squad on their forthcoming five-week long training camp in Australia. ECB performance director David Parsons said: "Graham was very impressive this winter when he worked with England Lions in the UAE and both the players and management team held him in extremely high regard. We are very pleased to be welcoming him on a full time basis." Thorpe said: "It will be hard to leave Surrey but this is a fantastic opportunity for me to help prepare the next generation of England batsmen."

Batting is also equal for me as there are no. players out of form in englosh team also like Colly,Pieterson ,Strauss(in tests) and Cook,although again one department England have the edge is the WK batsman which also at one time used to be Aussies strength:--D

England's rich seam can win ashes - Broad

Stuart Broad believes England's seamers can overcome testing conditions and help inspire an Ashes series victory over old rivals Australia. Broad told the latest issue of The Wisden Cricketer magazine that although spin-king Graeme Swann had been identified as a potential match-winner, England's seamers may hold the key to a successful Ashes campaign. England have not prevailed in an away Ashes series for 24 years, and were thumped 5-0 by the Australians on their last visit Down Under. Advertisement: Story continues below But Broad believes England's bowlers could prove a potent force this year even on wickets which historically have not favoured seamers. "A lot of people talk about how flat Australia is but seam bowlers have quite a lot of success out there," Broad said. "You've got to hit the deck hard on and around off stump. I think we've got a seam attack that could do some damage." Broad also rejected suggestions that the inexperience of England's bowling line-up - only James Anderson has toured Australia before - will count against them when battle commences in the First Test on November 25. "If we're not ready to go come the first day in Brisbane there are no excuses at all. In any case each bowler offers something different," he added. "The Pakistan batsmen didn't enjoy facing the seamers this summer and there's no reason why the Aussies should in Australia." Broad added that inexperience may even benefit England because few of the current group were survivors of the brutal whitewash four years ago. "There's not many of us now who were involved in that 5-0 tour," he said. "And eight or nine of us involved this time have never been to Australia on an England tour. 1) Its not in England, so the ball won't swing as much. 2) Its Aussies that are facing you and not Pakis who "fixed" their matches. 3) Yours isn't the Best bowling side in the world, so STFU and stop bragging your performance against Pakistan :hehe:

1st match is at Gabba which is best place for swing bowlers. Anderson can run thru Aussie batting line up in swinging conditions like Asif did at Sydney.

nah the swing is nowhere as pronounced as what Anderson gets in England..

Even in one test against WI, Bravo ran thru Aussies with good swing bowling but WI was unlucky not to have fit Chanderpaul & Sarwan in that series. Eng batting is pretty good and they will take advantage of any Aussie collapse.
