Rain could ruin Ind-Aus ODI at Kochi KOCHI: Will the India-Australia ODI slated for Sunday be a repeat of 2007? As far as the prospects of rain are concerned, all indications are that it is going to be a repeat of the 2007 ODI match, played between the same teams at the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium. With rain gods showing no mercy, the fate of the first ODI in the three-match series has become a matter of concern. And, with heavy rains coming back to Kochi after a couple of sunny days, cricket administrators are raking their brains to find a solution to prevent the outfield getting drenched. However, the authorities are confident of holding the ODI as only two sunny days are needed to make the outfield dry before Sunday’s match. “There are predictions that there will be heavy rain. Hence we are fully prepared to take on the challenge. We will re-start the drying of outfield from Friday onwards. Dhoni should have been rested by the selectors - they did not. Thats my opinion. He has been playing nonstop for too long. Now if the rain is going to provide a respite, I welcome that. In anycase, whether the match is rained off or not, is not going to be influenced by me stating something in ICF. So, chillax.

Wrong. My concern is the Test matches - there is one against NZ coming up. I want all 14-15 members of the Test squad to be 100% fit and raring to go. I prioritize NZ-Test over Aus-ODI. If weaker team for an ODI against Aus means a fresher, fitter player for the Test match, I will take that (even if we lose the ODI). Both Aus ODI and NZ Test are "international matches", but if I have to choose which is more important, thats my prioritization order (Tests first). PS: Maybe MSD is going to rest for the ENTIRE nz series. But thats not official info, so I dont know. If so, then its ok to be playing this ODI series. My current assumption is that he is playing Tests against NZ since we dont know otherwise.

spectre, Ideally, yeah, even I want India to win all the matches (diff formats). But only if the scheduling is spaced out, then that can happen. If this kind of moronic scheduling is done by BCCI, then what will happen is we will win one or two ODIs, players will pick up some injury and then we'll have W. Saha, Munaf Patel, and Rohit Sharma playing as cover(backup) in Test. Then we'll lose the Test! If there is decent spacing of Intl matches, then we can have the strong team for all formats.

danra, You have a point, I agree. But then again, I dont decide whether it rains or not. If it does rain away, then I just see a plus point in that there is extra rest. Thats all. and like Sree says, I will take it since he is being ground to dust with the crazy schedule now. (if it so happens to rain). If the match takes place, then thats not too bad either.
