vaibhav_delhi Posted October 18, 2010 Author Posted October 18, 2010 You dont mention Zaks average or Harbys average or Sreesanth :haha: they average 31 and 32. Still decent for today's age and for the amount of cricket they play on indian pitches. btw.pakistan hasnt produced a single test bowler equal to bhajji or zak in the last 10-12 years of theircricket.

Lol, of course they have not. They have produced much better bowlers. So either you are overrating our bowlers or underrating their bowlers. And let's not make it a India vs Pak but rather I hope we respect the opponents

Sooda Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 Perosnally id prefer series wins in SA and Aus. Success in test cricket is paramount for me, and I want us to totally undisputed No 1 with no whingers and haters questioning our status there. We'd need to beat SA and Aus away to achieve that.

And let's not make it a India vs Pak but rather I hope we respect the opponents Paki bowlers of last decade: Asif--> Couldnt bowl a single bouncer in 6test matches in england. Struggles to cross 80mph *barrier* without nendrolone. 90% of his test matches have been played on seamer friendly pitches where opposition bowlers have performed better than him(so his team lost as usual) [i could take you series by series] Akhter-->178wkts and finished in tests. Zaheer is gonna end up with twice as many wkts(350+) in all probability. Amer --> young and promising(so was ishant). Only 50wkts old. Rest are: S Tanvir (avg 63.20) arafat( avg 48.66) Sami (50.73) Abdur Rauf (46.33) Rana (58.00) Rao iftikhar(1 test, 0 wkts) very mediocre Riaz, Irfan, ever falling Gul, n few more who dont need a mention... You cant compare any of these with zaheer. And bhajji has absolutely no competition apart from Saqlain n Danish both of whom he easily overshadows. Agree??

Lol, First thing what exactly are you trying to acheive, what is your goal in bringing this topic. Secondly, then why 10 years, why not 11,12,13... years. Even if you say 10 years, Afridi has been a better bowler than Bhajji in the one dayers, similarly Kaneria has more wickets despite playing less test matches than Zaheer/ Pakistan has and still has a bowling strength while India bowling has and is a weakness. There is nothing wrong with that as everyone has some weakness and strengths but do not try to deny your weakness or deny the opponents strengths.

Indian bowling is weaker when compared to its batting. Hence batting is strength paki bowling is stronger when compared to its batting. hence bowling is strength. Indian bowling is stronger than paki bowling as I have tried to explain. India is ranked No.1 (130points) while pak is a light year behind top 5 teams(83points) 2. I am only talking abt TEST CRICKET. Not talking ODI at all. (there too pak is languishing at No.7) So dont discuss afridi here. 3. Comparing a fast bowler with a spinner is like comparing apples and oranges. 4. I am not achieving anything. Just saying what is right. Some pakistani poster had asked abt the averages, obviously to undermine indian bowlers (wrongly), and then your (unwanted imo) reply followed, so I compared the bowlers of the 2 nations.
Debutant Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 WC win is the greatest achievement.Wont mind winning the tests too.

Another long argument I feel is coming.First thing, when I do not criticize another country cricket team , it does not make me their nationality. India bowling might be stronger than Pakistan today because of the turmoil Pak is having but there is no logical reason and defense to say India bowling is better than Pak for over the 10 specific years you said. Zak and Bhajji also have had their fair share of ups and downs, so they are really just average bowlers. More importantly, it really puzzles me that why has ranking become such a big issue now, when suddenly we are top, there are fans like you and media who keep on bringing that table. But what about the rest of the other years, it was never mentioned neither cared. For me, it is still the same old thing, I do not really care about that ranking as it is meant to change but a WC win never change. You just cannot talk about how great it is to be No.1 and its importance while at the same time dismissing the ranking, when other teams were at the top.
vaibhav_delhi Posted October 18, 2010 Author Posted October 18, 2010 ^^mate u have got it horribly wrong(once again) 1 i never said paki bwling has never been stronger than ours in last 1o years. read again. 2 i said pak hasnt produced better bowler than bhaj n zak in last decade n tried to explain. When u evaluate a bowler, u need to look at the longevity factor ie the amnt of wkts they have taken which is a testimony of their skill, fitness n persevearance. Evry test wkt is gold. 3 i dont believe in bragging abt rankings. For ex, i wont ever cite rankings to say india is superior to SA in absolute terms. But when the difference in rating pts is so huge(47), any referance to rankings in saying ind>pak (in bowling too) is absolutely justifiable imo. 4 i wont hav had to reply had u not typed first 2 lines of ur post#46. So its my humble request to u to think bfore u type. Ps: posting frm a cellphone, pls ignore spelling errors.
yoda Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 I can't believe some of you think a bilateral test series win is more important than something like the WC. Would be interesting to see what a guy like Sachin would consider as more important given that he has been a ODI master for 20 years but still without the crown jewel of ODIs. My guess is the WC.

It's not about winning a bilateral series. I want India to be recognized as world number 1 team of this era and I believe that a win in SA and Aus will lend more authenticity to these claims than a world cup win. Not that I would always put bilateral series over WC. But in situation where India is knocking on the door of dominance, I want a series win in SA. If we were either firmly inside that door or far away from that door, than I would have taken world cup win.

It took the assies more than decade to win a series in India while they were piling up WC wins. I would easily exchange those elusive test series wins in places like SA and AUS for a WC win and preferably a few on the trot. :--D
fineleg Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 If India wins the Test series in SA, it stamps authority so much more than winning the WC played in India. The WC may be 'glitzy' but the real dominance will be the one that will be pronounced if-and-when the win comes in SA Test series (and then Aus Test series)

Though I would agree that WC win would be a really joyous moment. But given a choice, I would love to have WC win along with these test series wins :--D
