ZodiaC Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 its your job to find...i wont...its obvious....you must start remembering his innings from the start of his career and every series he has played and you will get your answers....some good innings wee in Australia also in CB series and he had a big hand India winning an ODI series first time in SL when we didnt have many of our regular players he countered the spin of Mendis and Murli...4-1 series win against Pak..search those series...183, 148, 72 of just 46 balls in 2006 against pak in a precarious situation, 77 of 56 balls in the last match of the same series...before 2007 WC, we had 2 series against WI and SL at home and he averages in excess of 100. and opening the batting in power plays is much easier than batting at 6th and hitting 6s and 4s....and this decade we rarely found swing and seam in One day games and so on list is quite a long its just 5 years now...not more than that and he has proved himself the second best match winner for India in ODI after SRT... We need to check his record in the matched India winning and see how he stands there....and in his captaincy team has done well too...58% win record...it could have been much better if we had a few good bowlers in out team...but its not..coz Cricket is just not win by the bat...you need to bowl well too to win matches...... First things first: As gilly played as an opener, you can never single out such instances, as he literally rips the bowling apart and turn the game on his head, then there won't be much pressure on the middle order. That's why there are not much innings like the one in 2007 wcup finals. Agree with most of the above, he was key to our win in the CB series and against Pak - but I didn't get the SL series (the murali and mendis one) you were talking about? And about opening being easy, can't help but :giggle: How many openers (who played a sizable amount of games) have averages in the early 50's or heck even the mid forties? And the new ball will have movement irrespective of how flat the pitch is - so opening is the hardest part FYI. Yes, you can score quick runs, but the odds of a wicket falling is much higher compared to that of middle/lower middle order. Not to mention how gilly has revolutionized the role of WKB. And captaincy is a whole different matter, we've discussed that to death in many threads, that anyways is irrelevant here.
Andy Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Gilchrist was a match winner on his day, but he wasnt as consistent as dhoni...gilli was more aggressive than dhoni in his whole career..but being too aggressive means he has a lot of short cameo innings which was the role given to him by team management...when dhoni came to the scene he was aggressive too...has the biggest score as a keeper in odis to his name..bt he has been consistent and he as additional responsibility of being captain and that has made him change his game too a dasher to a cool finisher as he bats down the order and i dnt think gili has won or help the team winning as many matches as dhoni has done in his first 5 years and wicketkeeping wise both were similar, neither bad, nor excellent...need to think about all the things here Allrite Not consistent as Dhoni? Care to check Gilchirist's Number of Tons outside Australia and Check Dhoni's Avergae Outside India. Leave alone Tons....

I wud anyday take dhoni over ganguly and dravid for the role he plays in indian ODI scheme of things.

Nice cop out :giggle: He's the best ODI wicket keeper for us, no need to compare him with PaPa, Mongiya etc :giggle: BTW gilly has 28 MOM :two_thumbs_up: Sanga 16. And Ganguly, Ponting etc were also captains FYI.
