Had SRT not done too well in Aus and Eng would he have been picked ? I doubt it. This is the problem with these "Experts". There is no sense of fairness nor there is any rhyme and reason.

Concur. But for ball tampering this guy would not have taken half the wickets that he had taken on those patta Pakistan wickets.
Then why is Wakram in ur list :giggle:

Tell me about it. Lillee took a grand total of 6 wickets outside of Aus/Eng/NZ, has an awful record in SL and Pak, yet proclaimed one of best ever based on oohs and aahs of people who faced him. The hypocricy is one that sticks in throat. He was a good bowler. But cant compare him to all round brilliance of an Ambrose for example. Based on his record in subcnontinent Lille should be no were near a world 11. As boss says just imagine if tendulkar had poor recoed in oz and england. We also get players in world 11 who never played anywere apart from oz and eng, yet get selected. Records of players like lillee and ponting in areas of subcontinent put to bed automatic right some that say that greats would have performed in India etc .

Sachin Tendulkar - The greatest fking batsman of all time. What a player!
I genuinely don't think you can call him the greatest batsman of all time when his average against teams including Allan Donald and Glenn McGrath is 20 runs lower than his all time average.

Daryl1985 alias troll Bradman failed in bodyline, against short pitch bowling OUT Lilllee failed in subcontinent OUT Lara never scored a ton in India and averages 34 against India OUT Warne horrendous record in India and against Tendulkar OUT Mcgrath averages in 30s in pak and sl, nearly 10 above his carrer average OUT Any other you want analysing?

Mate chill out. I'm not saying he is not a great i just disagree with the fact that he can be labelled the greatest of all time when he failed against the greatest fast bowlers of his generation. Tendulkar is one of my favourite players, i just feel that his performances against McGrath and Donald leave a blot on his resume.

I will rip through their cv with the pedantic nature you have done. Tendulkar = most tons, most runs and decades after his debut still number in one world. Come on name your champion!!! I will destroy the pretenders credentials:dance:

No wonder people call you a troll. The low averages were not necessarily CAUSED because of the presence of those bowlers. Why is this so difficult to understand? Fleming got Sachin out on more occasions in those matches than McGrath. How do you conclude just because of a cricinfo search with X player than they are cause(the bowler) and effect(the low average)? I will repeat myself even though you will ignore. In those few matches he played against McGrath ot Donald, Sachin might have got out to a full toss from another bowler, he might have got run out, he might have been playing well and got a howler from the umpire. Just because a bowler's presence shows a low avergae doesnt mean it CAUSED the low average? Understood?

I Would lean towards Don Bradman as he was so much better than anyone else who was playing around the same time as him. I would also perhaps slightly favour Lara. When in full flow i think he was the best around. However, i am willing to accept that some people feel Tendulkar is the greatest but there is no way that you can argue he is definitely the greatest of all time.

I believe the presence of McGrath is probably a factor because he was very economical and probably put some pressure on Sachin by bowling tight deliveries. Overall i would say that in head to head contests that McGrath DEFINITELY had the edge over Sachin, as did Allan Donald.

When I look at the XI the batting line-up, Allrounder's Spot, and WK spot are spot on though Gillly's position based purely on Wicket Keeping skills could be debated with a Knott for example. But the sum total of Gilly as an overall package perhaps edges out everyone and that is fair. Now to the biggest goof-up. The Bowlers. Each and every spot barring Marshall's is up for debate and a better candidate will surely emerge for each of the other three. Warne getting 34 more points than Murali is a joke and should invalidate the poll. If his action so to speak is an issue then do not have him in the list at all for voting. Period. That he has been included should have removed that ambiguity and after that nothing but the on field performances and accomplishments should matter. What gets my goat is none of Greig, Frith, Haigh, Chappell, Roebuck, Wright voted for him after each sung praises of Murali at each step of the way and more so Greig and Roebuck in the recent past just prior to his retirement. They proved themselves to be the biggest jack asses of all. How in the world the highest wicket taker in the history of the game with a better S/R, Average, 5 and 10 wicket hauls ends up losing out to someone who bowled in the same time span and had lesser success in comparision and worse he losses out by the biggest margin between 1st and 2nd ranked players when compared with any other category. That is the biggest goof up and a shame honestly speaking. Then Akram does not belong their either and he knows it too and so does Lillee especially if you compare him with Hadlee.

I have watched most matches and in most he did not even look like getting out before he did to an innocous ball. Some pressure! one of Mcgrath's wicket was the shoulder before wicket one when Sahcin was in full flow

Absolutely not. That just about sums up the feeling of most people about him. He was a demon in SL and just about a normal bowler in other parts of the world. This is besides the point that many people including me believe he bowled illegally to get a lot of his wickets. Question is why wasn't similar logic applied to Dennis Lillee is beyond me. Why Lillee, why? Why not McGrath, Ambrose and Hadlee?

Nopes....Murli was a gun everywhere accept aust. Too bad he was a chucker. Agree with the other one....Amrose/Marshel/Akram/warne were my pick. Would like to see steyn also pick up 350+ wkts some day.

Yeah lillee was a weird choice, McGrath/Amby anyday for me ahead of lillee :headshake:

Murali against non minnows 624 wickets 24.87 avge 58.6 Strike rate 55% of wickets top 6 batsmen Warne against non minnows 685 wickets 25.52 avge 57.9 Strike rate 56% of wickets top 6 batsmen. Basically they are the same. Murali had the advantage of bowling in subcontinent. This is theoritical argument. But i would rather have a leggie than 2 offies as they are genuine wicket taking options on all surfaces.
