Stats Request + Is getting run out (esp top batsmen) in Tests a cardinal sin?

In Test matches, where people need to place a premium on their wicket, would you consider a runout (esp top batsmen) as a cardinal sin? Yes, sometimes, its brilliant fielding where nothing can be done. At other times, batsmen are in ODI or Tontee-Tontee mode in trying to attempt needless runs. Whats your take? Is this one of the absolutely worst form of dismissal for a batsman in Tests? Stats Request: Is there a way to find out in the last 5 years and last 10 years, which Test team (country) has had the most number of run out dismissals overall? (cumulative total for last 5 and last 10 years in Test matches).

Yes it is a cardinal sin, and dravid :yay: is the batsman who has been run out most times in the history of test cricket. 12 times

^ is there a bug? The #of inn = # of runouts for all countries??

I think it only picks up those matches that have had a run out and treats each batsman's dismissal as an innings so the number of dismissal = number of innings. May be there is a better way to do it, I just did a quick way.

Oh ok. Thanks G_M :two_thumbs_up: @pkay - Yes. I'm well aware that legends Dravid, Ganguly and Laxman are notoriously poor runners and they also get other people run out (stats for which not available).

sree, Dont take the literal christian meaning, basically its a really needless way to lose a wicket in a Test (talking abt the risky runs here, not the regular run but a brilliant fielding scenario). The kind M.Vijay was attempting repeatedly early on in Test2 vs Aus (though he was lucky nothing happened)

Ooops! Lucky! First ball of play on Day-3...Gotta be careful when super fielders like Martin Guptill are around.

49.1 Vettori to Tendulkar, no run, shout for run out short in length outside off, Tendulkar goes back to push to cover point and sets of for single. No run there. Guptill dives to stop it and fires the throw. Tendulkar just about slides his bat inside the crease. It might have got interesting had it been a direct hit.
