flamy Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 No wonder they are the bottom of the pile. Adivaasis :hehe:
fineleg Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 tdigi, The majority of Tamil Nadu do not speak or understand Hindi. While they wont do anything to you, they just wont understand LOL :D English will get you better response. Desi, Mahabs is a nice place, preferably take someone who can talk Tamil along with you, but you will get by with English quite alright.
f.b.m Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 My hometown is just a couple of kms away from mahabalipuram. Thats not where I am now tho. Hiring a car will do you much good in the area I think. + Its a nice drive all the way through to Pondicherry if you want to add that into your plan.
achilles Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 You were serious? :omg: Tayaji... why don't you take SirJohn along with you as the extra person :woot:
Desi Cartman Posted November 20, 2010 Author Posted November 20, 2010 im not on my honeymoon .. I am going there with my whole khandaaan Anyway is it a good place to visit , what are the good places to visit around maha ( 30-60 mins drive max )
saneindian Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 Speaking hindi whether in Karnataka, Kerala or TN is fine!! Have been on roadtrips from Madurai to Rameshwaram/Bangalore to Mangalore/Bangalore to Cochin and we did not have much problem. If they don't understand Hindi, all they say is "Hindi Nai". People are quite friendly and very helpful despite the language barrier. English works in the city areas, in the countryside, the sign languages work better!! The countryside is awesome and some of the roadside eateries in very small places serve some authentic south indian delicacies.
Gunner_Mania Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 im not on my honeymoon .. I am going there with my whole khandaaan Anyway is it a good place to visit , what are the good places to visit around maha ( 30-60 mins drive max ) Apart from the 2 or 3 places In Mahabalipuram, away from Mahbalipuram, Pondicherry is about 90 mins. In a different directon Kancheepuram would be about 60 mins. Coming in towards Chennai, the East Cost Road has Kovalam with its backwaters, muthukadu boating, a couple of theme parks - VGP, MGM etc and then ofcourse there is Chennai itself.
Mamu Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 I am planning to visit South India . has anybody been to Mahabalipuram ? Yes daisy in South Yes nice little quaint town by the beach (or at least used to be) One of the better beach towns in India. Don't get into the sea there. Apparently quite rough and strong unexpected under currents --> This seems to the problem with most beaches on Bay of Bengal.
Mamu Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 ^^ I meant swimming in the beach -- of course you can always do the girly 'feet-dipping', no harm there.
