You have problems with Ganguly mainly because his strike rate is low and he wastes balls but even with open eyes you fail to see that KKR had no other batsman who was performing with the bat - Ganguly made 493 and the next highest was Gayle, who made 293. KKR and Delhi Daredevils were the only teams in IPL3 for whom only 1 batsman made more than 300 runs in the tournament. Now compare this to other teams - almost all the teams had 2 or 3 batsmen who contributed with the bat on a regular basis and made more than 300 runs. If there is only one person in the team who is scoring big runs then I can't blame him for scoring a bit slowly. KKR had Gayle who could have scored heavily but he was available only for about 9-10 matches so there was far greater pressure on Ganguly. I would absolutely love to see Goddy and Ganguly open the batting for MI.

Yes it is easy to score more runs if you play all the games and bat high up the order. For the record Ganguly played 14 games to Gayle's 9. And none of the players like Hussey or McCullum or Brad Hodge or Shah played as many games to really up their stats or total number of runs in comparison. And to your point of S/R, yes of course that is a very important measure in a 20-20 game than in any other format and for a top order bat that does not run well, that cannot force the pace against genuine pace that amounts to dot balls in the end result 8-10 runs difference will be huge. So yes Ganguly when being an automatic at the top of the order that never takes much risks will have that kind of a run total in the end. Does not mean much when one looks at the overall picture. I am sure any player who is a decent bat when given a free hand to play in all the 14 games without being at the risk of being dropped can accumulate 30-40 runs on an average that can amount to 500 plus runs in 14 games. And from what I saw of Ganguly he invariably is the one playing safe at one end almost putting the onus on the partner to up the ante. Net net from a team perspective Ganguly is a huge turn off in a 20-20 game and personally I would not have him bat in the top 3 spots at all. And by the way Ganguly played 40 IPL games out of a possible 42 games in the 3 IPL's and vast majority of them at the top of the order for the KKR. And KKR is the only team that did not make it to the Semi Finals while the rest of the 7 teams did. I do not think that it is a coincidence. Ganguly's batting and his 110 S/R in the 40 games did play a role in that for sure. It is silly to deflect the blame on his teammates when Ganguly himself hogged the limelight by being a constant in the team. I would want no part of this guy who sulks at the very suggestion of being asked to bat low down the order or sit out for a game or two. And he is not even your prototypical 20-20 opening bat like a Gilly, Gayle, Hayden etc. Why the hell anyone wants this 40 year old who does not run well, field well with a huge ego is beyond me. Any team that is paying Ganguly more than the Grade-4 level salary in the bid is getting short changed in my opinion.

thats what I said "Gayle could have scored heavily but he played only 9-10 matches". All other main KKR players played few matches therefore pressure was on Ganguly as he was the only main batsman left.

++ CSK is one of the teams, which didnt have any paki in their squad since the first edition. And yes we are the most consistent team and the current champions of India and the World. so, yeah, we are happy with home grown talent and honest foreign cricketers.

It was afridis opinion too. right after the 2009 auction he said how he would never play in the IPL and ijaz butt said that they would never allow a pak player in the IPL or a pak team in CL. Then a few days later, Afridi changes his tune and wants to play in IPL and Butt acts "Ignoramus" on why BCCI never invited a pak team for CL. Mate, i have nothing against you, but its your players like afridi who acts mighty and then begs the next day and players like tanvir who blames "hindu mentality" i have a problem with. Infact 7 out of 11 players are match fixers in your side. You should have a problem too. BTW, India is a crap country. Its good inspite of itself and because of its average people.

Ganguly is not at his Best anymore, we could have called him a complete'Misfit' if this was 2008 and he was still playing some forms of Cricket. This man has retired 2 Years back, and its not that he was doing great in 2008 too, Still i believe the Running etc being talked about he could have done better than what he is doing now. Besides, they just need to pay 650,000 or 350,000 $, which is pretty low for an indian international players esp with a 9 million $ cap.
