To win Test Series in SA Or To win a World Cup. I think both... The reason I ask is, we play quite a few ODIs in SA. If we want to prepare for WC, we don't need to play ODIs in SA, I would rather have challenger Trophy for the preperation. If I were Gary Kirsten, I would ask all our major guys to leave after Test match and let our young guys play ODIs. IF we win Test series our guys especially our bowlers and seniors will be dog tired with the work they would have put, so they should come back and have rest. They can play ODI for their state teams. I think by then ODIs cups would have started.

Ya Vaibhav created a similar thread,World cup anyday ahead of any overseas test series win, though both wins would be nice :D

Just wrote a post and lost it....grrr Once you gave the option of 'Both' the answer was easy. Test series win is necessary for us to become like WI 79-86 and Aus 99-06. WC is necessary for one reason more than any..The Buddha! And hearing Dhoni, Viru, Bhajji, Zak, and Yuvi express their desire to gift it for Sachin makes me believe we will win it. I get this feeling that in the last couple of years, the Indian public consciousness has willed Sachin to the height of the halo on top of Everest. It's like the routine betrayal by his team mates in the 90s and we feeling so frustrated and helpless watching them do so has kinda made the public and new generation of cricketers express very strongly that destiny must pan out differently. His travails and status on the field seems to reflect how our nation itself has grown in its status. Disappointment after disappointment in the mid-late 90s coincided with our knowledge industry make a name for itself but the politicians betraying us with almost yearly national elections. And even though the previous decade itself started with a dot com blast coinciding with our 3-0 and 0-2 hammering plus match fixing, we came out better for the experience as stronger economy and better kirket team. And you can see the pattern of his career coinciding with our own status as a world influencer with decent congruence. India will win the WC! I'd take a 4-0 drubbing of the Aussies in Aussieland over a test series win in SA though :winky:

Both would obc be ideal, but if asked for ONE of the two Id go for the series win in SA. Test cricket is ultimate and winning there would silence the doubters of our No 1 status.

WI and Aus swept everything before them whether Test or ODI...2 consecutive WCs and 3 consecutive WCs, they'll argue!

I dont care that much about ODI cricket were the test no 1 and it would be great to maintain that. The doubters and haters would rate SA as the unofficial no 1...winning well there would at least begin to convince them otherwise...and in a way not beating NZ by more than 1-0 is a dissapointment, if not so much a failure...

Therefore, we must beat all and sundry comprehensibly in all formats

if we want to win worldcup after SA test series is over, we need our main guys playing ODI on indian pitches not on SA pitches. So BCCI needs to do soemthing about it.

But WC is the bigger one IMO

So by the time the business end of the tournament starts we will be ready...I wouldn't spend my energies on the WC right now. Right now it is victory in SA. I think I heard on the news that will be playing our southern neighbors in a small series again in Jan-Feb.

^yes I agree, we have 6 games, but its also important to peak at just about right time. We need to get into ODI mould after grilling SA series. For me playing our top guys in SA ODI won't make sense
