Ram Posted November 26, 2010 Posted November 26, 2010 Sir i have searched all cricinfo if you can please share some of his 'Failures' in Domestic cricket which we dont know.:winky: IIRC he was dropped from the Sri Lanka's Tour of India in 2005 which started in October or November. In the 2005-06 Statistics we have all the matches where Bengal have featured from Nov 23-26, 2005 to Jan 20-24, 2006 and in the 2006-2007 statistics we have all the Matches which Bengal featured from Nov 23-25, 2006. By that time SCG was called in to the team so 2006-2007 statistics are irrelevant in this matter. But the 2005-06 statistics have all the matches after he was dropped from the Team. And his average was 102 and 16 with the ball. :dontknow: So much for your statistical 'prowess'. Ganguly's last test match before he was dropped was the 3rd test against Pakistan in Lahore in January 29, 2006. The two Ranji trophy matches that you have quoted as 'proof' of Ganguly's 'Form' were before that series, where he played against Mahararshtra (Nov 23, 2005) and against Tamil Nadu (Jan 3rd, 2006). The 2005/06 Ranji season pretty got finished by the time he came back form the Pakistan tour. From the time he was dropped from the test team in Jan 2006, to the time he was picked again in December 2006, Ganguly played one Ranji match (against Punjab in November 2006), 2 Duleep trophy matches and 3 Challenger trophy matches. Thats a total of 8 innings in which he crossed 50 only ONCE . Do you need more 'Proof' of his Form?
Andy Posted November 26, 2010 Author Posted November 26, 2010 marirs_mania - Here is my two cents, Ganguly was dropped from the ODI team first, he proved his form in First class cricket. May be he should have proved in Challengers, But when he was dropped there was no Challengers ging on hence he played in First Class Cricket and proved his form, in 2006-07 Challengers he failed its true, But his domestic 4 day Form was good. Thats all i said and have brought in stats featuring 4 day cricket.

We are talking about being dropped from the team it can be ODI or Test. And not specifically talking about being dropped from the squad, He was dropped from the X1 first.

Andy Posted November 26, 2010 Author Posted November 26, 2010 But he was not selected for the SA tour becoz of his ranji performances but for the fact after dismal show in ODI series ' date=' selectors went for an experienced middle order batsman in the form of ganguly and dont forget at that time new selection committee had taken over with Dilip Vengsarkar being chairman of selectors and he was the prime reason for ganguly's return to intl cricket[/quote'] Agreed on that but my point is after being dropped from the ODI squad when he got a wake up call he performed well in First Class, He was dropped from the First X1 then, later from the squad.
Ram Posted November 26, 2010 Posted November 26, 2010 Are we talking about being dropped from Tests specifically? We are talking about being dropped from the team. I dont care what we're talking about. My point was that Ganguly pretty much came back into the team on the back his back-room polticking and tactics, not on the back of his runs in domectic cricket and I have proved that (ONE 50+ score in EIGHT innings is not 'proof' of form). You said he scored runs in FC cricket, which was wrong, posted the wrong and completely irrelevant set of statistics, which was again wrong and said he 'MAY' have played politics, which is again wrong.
Sid Posted November 26, 2010 Posted November 26, 2010 Agreed on that but my point is after being dropped from the ODI squad when he got a wake up call he performed well in First Class' date=' He was dropped from the First X1 then, later from the squad.[/quote'] At that time they wanted yuvi to take ganguly's place at no.5 in test cricket and to his credit yuvi performed in SL series and Pak series where again Ganguly was in the squad but didnt play in one of the test matches

You are ignoring the fact when he was dropped first he performed and didnt get place in the side, All i mean is a batsman who is dropped from 'Team' had performed you said he didnt which was "WRONG". Yes he didnt perform in domestic cricket to be on the board for the SA tour. But he did perform the momment he was dropped from the ODI squad and Test Side, Not SQUAD. Hence i dont care if you talk about Tests alone.

Andy Posted November 26, 2010 Author Posted November 26, 2010 Allrite this argumnt is going nowhere, Since am the one to divert the topic i'll put an end to this, Here is my summary, After Ganguly was dropped from the ODI side he performed well in the domestic competition particularly the 4 day one. But after he was dropped from the Test squad he didnt perform. Not sure about Politics though. :--D End of the topic from my side.

That post makes no sense to me whatsoever. He performed the moment he was dropped from the side, but not the squad? Whatever that means, I have no idea..!

Anyways lets get on with the topic.
