He was a factious character.
Nirvanam Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 So I was being played as a first change bowler and the opening batsman as always. The opposite team was ranked in top 3 on the tables and they had got 66 runs in just first 8 overs for zero wickets. I came in for the 9th over' date=' which went for about 7 or 8 runs. I was not repeated for the 11th over which got me pissed. Then I was brought back into attack for the 14th over. This over, I started slapping the batsman with one bouncer after another. I was taking the longest run up I could. Fortunately, the pitch was very solid and every ball was going like a tracer bullet. I bowled two no balls for height and finished the over for those two runs and no wickets. I was very excited with the kind of support I was getting from the track. In the sixteenth over, I bowled a bouncer and then followed it by another bouncer. Third ball was a yorker which went straight into the off and middle stump. The next two balls went without a run and then for the last ball I caught and bowled their opener who's score was in high 40s. I picked up three more wickets in that spell of 6 overs. I was then brought back into the attack for the 31th over. I picked up two more wickets in the spell of 3 overs. I ended up with my best figures ever with 21 runs and 7 wickets. The opponents ended their innings with 146/10. This was about two years ago. I have never bowled better than I did that day. I made about 28 runs while opening later in the game. We won the game in just 29 overs. [/quote'] Nice! :--D btw' date=' my bowling action is a little like our Zakie boi! He was always my favorite bowler hence I would just run around and repeat his action over and over again for fun at a very young age. I never intended to be a bowler but his action is so beautiful that you can just hold a ball in your hand and copy his action to become a bowler. [/quote']Till about 15-16 yrs old I bowled ditto like Kapil Dev but somehow with that action I could not generate pace so I changed it to a slightly more freer action and suddenly I could generate decent pace. If I really think about it, it could also be that I grew about 3-4 inches suddenly during that period and seemed to become slightly stronger (fido dido becoming 1.1* fido dido) so that could be the reason.

KD has one of the most natural actions. McGrath, Munaf, Kapil, Srinath have the best actions I have seen over my life span. My second favorites are Zak, Steyn, Lee, Ntini, Amir(the fixer). The worst action is that of Shoaib Akhtar and Mitch Johnson. These two are only there for pace and their action is very vulnerable to cramps and injuries. I learned to make that very high stride before delivering but it's very hard to do it as well as zak and it takes forever to master. I had to change it a little bit and not jump too high to control over stepping. my action is still a lot like zak's.

Padosi Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 RHB - Lower Middle order Batsmen in first class , T20 - Number 3 or Open Legspin, medium-fast - depending on the pitch, able to swing the ball sometimes but no control what so ever :crazy4:

f.b.m Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 ^Agreed. As a child I always tried to imitate him when bowling :D I am a legspinner and a number 7 batsman. Our home ground is massive so running the twos and threes have become my specialization.
Ram Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 I dont think there's any wannabe quick out there who didnt try to imitate Donald's action. My gaad, it was smooth as silk..:D
Nirvanam Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 I think the best bowling action belongs to Donald. Bond isnt bad either.Hadlee...smooth like a gazelle. The coolest was McDermott. Most unique like photographic unique was Kapil. Deadly was Imran and Marshall. Boring was McGrath, copy book was this guy by name Richard Snell from SA he didn't play much though. That reminds me Kapil has two amazing photographic unique things...his bowling action at the crease and the Natraj pull!
dial_100 Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 wicket Keeper. If you are out side of crease and miss it, you will most probably be walking back to pavilion. Never learnt to dive though because of the grounds. Opening ODI bat. Strong on square and on drives, straight drives. Quick singles was my key. Oh... and strong defense. Bat and keep with only pads and gloves. No other protective gears.
Dravid Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 You two can have intercourse with each other. u wanna cum watch?

And when I was playing when in college I never wore a helmet...could not afford to buy one. First time I wore a helmet was when I played for my corporate team in 2001. But after playing 2 balls I removed the vizer (?)...just could not see the ball! How do you guys manage to see thru that grill yaar?
VRV Singh Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 I am basically a gentle medium pace, accurate bowler (used to be a fair bit quicker but lost it...why does that seem familiar :hmmm:). Mostly bowl a fullish line at off stump which can be hard to get away. I tend to bat in the middle order, prefer to look for gaps in the field than go over the top, very susceptible to lbw preferring to play across the line...favourite shot is the leg glance My catching from significant heights is quite frankly a disgrace...I am one of those fielders who would actively run away from a ball given the chance.

Bat and keep with only pads and gloves. No other protective gears. Are you able to stand fairly close to the stumps against a pace bowler while keeping? My team keeper stands significantly closer to the stumps while keeping when he has all his guards on but otherwise he will stand at half a ground distance. I have done a little bit of keeping myself and I must say that it's just as tiresome as bowling with a long run up. You are basically jumping around for the whole game. Wear the abdominal guard though...It will help someday :--D For helmet, you can try baseball catcher's helmet. You might like it. Dinesh Karthik wears it while keeping if you have noticed.

It's well constructed and it's quite easy to see thru the grill. I have both helmets but I often opt for the baseball helmet with a grill. It's very protective and also very light on the head compared to a real cricket helmet. And I love wearing all sorts of guards because it makes me feel like a playaa
ShahidAfridi Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 I am a elegant stroke player and i pride myself on not giving away my wicket, when i play myself in i can reach big 100s and change games.
