dhillon28 Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 Rahul Dravid = Selfish? Here is an anecdote- During an IPL game (please note, IPL game), this man walked up to Virat/Robin/Manish and told him to score his 50 and hang in till the end with him, while batting. The next ball, the lad got out. Rahul Dravid, at the other end, turned around in absolute disgust and banged his bat on the ground. And no, it wasn't he who got out. He was aghast that the guy missed a deserved 50. While Dravid was full of disappointment, the batsman walked off without much emotions. Seemed to the commies that Dravid was feeling worse than the person who got out. And he is selfish!?! Well yes he is, for he always wants his teammates to do well, be it international cricket or even IPL. yeh i remember the match, it wasnt in IPL it was in ACLT20 just gone this september and it was mumbai vs bangalore at durban. Dravid slammed his bat into the ground? How does this prove that he's unselfish? If Dravid's team won that game then they would have got into semi finals and got more prize money which a share of goes to dravid. Also dravid played a good knock that match as opener, quite rare for him to play well in t20 format and if bangalore had won, alot of credit would have gone to him as he was the only batter who batted through the innings. so this example of him slamming his bat on the ground cant be used as an example of him being unselfish because he had a lot to lose personally by kohli getting out! however, i did see dravid slammed his bat on the ground on one other occasion....India vs NZ 2010, 3rd test Nagpur, when he got out on 191! p.s. going by previous attempts to defend him on this thread, im really worried that you guys are going to use this as an act of unselfishness by saying: "erm Dravid slammed his bat on the ground because he was really intent that India added 9 more runs before they declared, so that their lead could become unassailable" -Lol

dhillon28 Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 going by your severely biased (and extremely wrong) opinion regarding Dravid' date=' I don't think anyone would now try to defend Dravid.[/quote'] severely wrong?.....yeah good one........that must be why so many ppl have come up with solid evidence to discredit what I've said! if we live in a world where a guy can make a claim and have so much factual evidence (please feel free to cross examine and verify any evidence i give) to support him and he can be labelled biased and severely wrong than all i can say is.....we really are living in the Kalyug!
daryl1985 Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 Obviously from the emotional responses here, it's apparent that Rahul Dravid has a lot of family members on this forum....lol! You guys need examples of ur boy, Rahul Dravid being selfish? (and may I add, generally not a very nice person). How many days you guys have? 1. In New Zealand last test series (2009) when Sehwag batted in the 2nd innings of 2nd test, he got out trying to hit Jeetan Patel for a boundary (may I add the same approach he used to set up a win in Chennai a few months earlier in the 4th innings against Swann and Panesar on turning tracks.........the same match that Dravid contributed nothing to- IN BOTH INNINGS). At the end of the test when Dravid and Gambhir together saved the match, you know what Dravid said to the media? "It's no good being a player who blasts it all over the place and when it comes to saving a match, not being able to play sensibly and bat time". This dig came on the back of Viru's golden run and Dravid was obviously jealous because the attention was now off him. Cricketnirvana.com even wrote an article saying that if Dravid believed that was the case then why can he not up his slow scoring rate when the team needs to press on and win matches instead of handing initiative back to the opposition. After the same test match, Viru proclaimed gambhir as the "second wall of india"- maybe Dravid was jealous because he wanted to be the only wall- im not sure! All I can say is which vindictive, unprofessional idiot would make a comment about a colleagues backing like that! I now know why Dravid and Gregg Chappel got on.....because they both love belittling colleagues publicly to the media! 2. It is common courtesy as batsmen to walk off with you partner at the end of the day, even when it is with a tailender.........i've seen Sachin and Viru etc purposely wait for their tailenders and walk off together to give them confidence and respect. India vs Aus 2010 1st test, Mohali, Ishant was a nightwatchman, and he wanted to walk off with Dravid and Dravid completely ignored him and carried on walking to the pavillion and didnt want to be seen with him. Also Ishant performed well and scored 18 and didnt lose his wicket- excellent work from a nightwatchmen wouldnt you say? Not according to Dravid, all through out his innings he didnt even care to give any encouragement or support to Ishant and didnt congratulate him when he scored runs or played well. Please contrast this behaviour to how Sachin bats with nightwatchmen and how he makes the point of walking off with them. 3. Do I need to mention Dravid declaring when Sachin was on 196*? I bet u there will still be some idiots on this forum who will still try to defend this. 4. Champions Trophy 2009, Wanderers Joburg, India vs Pak odi- chasing 300+, Gambhir pummels the pak attack to all corners, even pins the mighty umar gul into submission in one devastating over and he gets 50 off approx 36 balls, what does Dravid do? He call for a run, then at the time when Gambhir has no chance of getting back, Dravid sends him back. This selfish, slow scoring suck up thought that he was more important to the team chasing three hundred then gambhir who was blasting everyone to all parts. This could only be an ego driven decision as it was dravids slow scoring throughout the match which put pressure on other batsmen and cost us losing that game. 5. 1st test vs NZ, 2010, Ahemdabad- in 3rd innings when india need to score QUICKLY to put pressure on nz in first innings, dravid calls sehwag for a run, when he realises he wont make it he sends Sehwag back as the sacrificial lamb to slaughter and this precipitated india's collapse and we needed bhaji and vvs to save the test for us. So what now, did Dravid think he was better placed to score quickly and set up a quickly lead for india to bowl new zealand out on than Sehwag? p.s. if your wondering why running someone out is a selfish act, as dravid did in these last two examples.......let me define what dravid did: he called them out for a run whilst he was batting so that he could score one run, when he saw the fielder and saw he would have got run out, he then send the non stiker back (i.e. sehwag and gambhir) to lose their wickets 6. India vs Australia, 2nd test Bangalore at the end of the game Sachin and Dravid were walking off together and someone who obviously works at the ground and is not very rich ran up to Sachin and Dravid to shake bother their hands...... Sachin's response- he swaps his bat from right hand to left hand which is hard to do because he's carrying his gloves also and shakes the guys hand and makes him happy. Dravid's response- at first he tries to ignore him and then when he has no choice he begrudgingly shakes his hand and makes out that like it is such a waste of his time for him to shake the hand of an average man. 7. IPL1- Dravid's response to his lesser ability in the t20 format......"if i had started playing this game when i was younger id be smashing this game. All i can say is what an arrogant, ego driven response to basically being crap something. When sachin and vvs didnt perform well in t20 (IMO better players than dravid), i didnt hear any such petty excuses from them. there are more examples but im getting bored now.....ps you cant argue with the above as its based on observation and facts- if you disagree with it the i suggest you role the footage of these matches and see for yourself!!!! why does everyone here think dravid is a nice person- because he trains hard, because he scores slowly, because he is educated and speaks good english and is soft spoken, because he doesnt go clubbing????? well all of these are commendable attributes to possess but it doesnt make you an unselfish person! maybe he doesnt go clubbing because he lacks confidence? maybe he's soft spoken because he's a coward? i personally dont know. But what i do want to know is before all you wise guys on this forum defended Dravid, what were your eyes doing when all this was happening on front of you on tv? Did you just happen to conveniently close them at these exact points! Or do you just not watch enough cricket to see these things. personally i watch entire test matches, all five days so i think im the best placed out of most ppl on this forum to comment on any indian players nature. I can't comment on the rest of the post but it did notice this in the Bangalore test. I was surprised that Dravid was so reluctant to shake the man's hand and when he did shake his hand given that he has a reputation of being a good guy.

Its your take really. But you are the wrong end of things here.

I was surprised that Dravid was so reluctant to shake the man's hand and when he did shake his hand given that he has a reputation of being a good guy. thank you brother. again to everyone who is thinking of 'lynching' daryl1985 for making this statement, just stop and ask yourself? is he wrong for seeing something with his eyes and then reporting it as he saw it? he's merely stating a fact! anyone who disagrees, just look at the B'lore test footage for yourselves at the end where sachin and dravid are walking off. its shows how many of the comments around here are opinion based when ppl as just telling me again and again that im wrong and not even bothering to refer to the footage and going from there.
dhillon28 Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 Glass half empty' date=' glass half full. Its your take really. But you are the wrong end of things here.[/quote'] well given all of what ive observed from the information from my first post, i know which way im gonna take it! wrong end of things here?.....anything to back up this claim?
vaibhav_delhi Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 I can't comment on the rest of the post but it did notice this in the Bangalore test. I was surprised that Dravid was so reluctant to shake the man's hand and when he did shake his hand given that he has a reputation of being a good guy. not sure how that incidence makes him selfish. shows only his arrogance.
vaibhav_delhi Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 yeh for this reason of striking balance, we dont dominate tests like aus did when they had no 1 ranking. viv richards and gary sobers were both named in cricinfo all time xi and both of them didnt have any problem diving around in tests as they were both outstanding fielders... so if richards and sobers dived around in tests and had no hesitation i cant think of any reason why lessers players like ganguly and dravid cant. ps ganguly and dravid didnt field hard in odis either- whats their excuse their.....but in IPL its all about $$$$$$$ completely disagree for the reasons tht i've already given.
dhillon28 Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 not sure how that incidence makes him selfish. shows only his arrogance. omg.....u really are going to another level to defend ur point arent you? oh well if you must...... it shows he's selfish because he didn't care for the feelings of the other person whose face lit up to shake the hands of his heroes, instead he only cared that it took a little bit of effort on his part to shake the guys hand......because he cares more for himself, considering the feelings of others is hard task for him. anyway at least youve admitted he's arrogant (that's a start)......i should have added that from the start as well.
Hindustani Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 Why M Vijay's name is there ? for me, there is only Jaddu ..but you can add rohit too, for wasting so many chances
dhillon28 Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 completely disagree for the reasons tht i've already given. yeh but the reasons u gave can be proved wrong when you see that viv richards and gary sobers diving around did not affect their batting performances as they were two of the greatest batsmen of all time (or in the case of gary his bowling performances).......also when ponting and hussey were top class players i never saw them go easy on fielding just to save energy for batting. why did wasim field with all his effort and still bowl exclellent spells. fielding is more of a team cause which is not wrapped with personal glory batting is a very personal skill with high personal glory attached a selfish person will go easy on his fielding to preserve his batting p.s. its only fielding, ur making out like i want them to run an assault course or something. if they were fit enough they could manage both.
vaibhav_delhi Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 dravid is a very good catcher n gangs is also pretty safe. likes of dravid, laxman n gangs are inherently bad runners and bad ground fielders. they lift their fielding slightly for ipl only coz T20 is desperation stuff . Cant understand why are you comparing them with hussey n ponting. In indian cricket, evrything is under close scrutiny and gets the due appreciation. Its not like there is no personal glory attached with fielding,.
vaibhav_delhi Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 omg.....u really are going to another level to defend ur point arent you? oh well if you must...... it shows he's selfish because he didn't care for the feelings of the other person whose face lit up to shake the hands of his heroes, instead he only cared that it took a little bit of effort on his part to shake the guys hand......because he cares more for himself, considering the feelings of others is hard task for him. anyway at least youve admitted he's arrogant (that's a start)......i should have added that from the start as well. when you say he's selfish, people are obviously gonna think in terms of being a selfish player not in terms of being a selfish human being(I do not agree to that either). This is what you had said Dravid because he is selfish and plays for personal gain but hides it so well that everyone thinks he is the nicest person
vaibhav_delhi Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 Why M Vijay's name is there ? for me, there is only Jaddu ..but you can add rohit too, for wasting so many chances likes of dhoni, raina, vijay are infact many people's favs. i think poll starter could have shown little better insight while choosing the options.
Sachin=GOD Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 likes of dhoni' date= raina, vijay are infact many people's favs. i think poll starter could have shown little better insight while choosing the options. actually there are quite a few people who don't like Dhoni (I am one of those- but I respect him as a good player) and Vijay - people tend to think that he's not suited to ODIs (without realizing the fact that he's only played 8 ODIs and therefore has'nt had many opportunities to show that he can play well in ODIs).
dhillon28 Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 when i say he's selfish im mean as a player and as a human being...but dont confuse this with me thinking he's not currently a decent player and previously an outstanding player.....as i player i would put dravid in my personal all time indian xi.
Andy Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 Are we judging Quality of Cricketers and their Attitude towards the Game by How they are in Real Life? Even if Dravid is not a 'Typical Nice' Guy the way he makes himself Look Like he is no doubt the most Selfless Player. He was the one who Kept wickets for us for 2 Years.
CSK Fan Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 no one voted for Dravid so chill. From the polls its Rohit followed by Bhajii
dhillon28 Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 also please do not refer to me as 'mate' and use words like 'lad' when addressing me. i feel very strongly about this.......if i'm born and brought up in england and dont want to act like a gora then I see no reason why anyone on this forum should try to do the same. I really had to make this statement becos i feel a lot of indians uneccessarily look up to gorey ppl.......trust me they're not that great! india needs to shift away from its colonial mentality.
