Cricket worldcup 2011 will be the most boring worldcup ever... Troll not welcomed

Hey guyz, I created this forum before but every one was very keen to bash pakistan and resorted to personal attacks so i have taken the BCCI element out so now stick to the topic. Cricket lovers around the world eagerly wait for worldcup. But thanks to ICC, 2011 worldcup will be the most boring worldcup in the history of the game and i can bet my life on this. I tell you why,Lets just have a look at the format ICC has come up with 14 teams. Eight regular teams and bangladesh,ireland,zimbabwe, holland,kenya and canada.Two groups and 7 teams in each group. Each team plays six match each and top four team qualifies for quarter final, followed by semifinal and final. WHAT THE HELL........Group stage will have a total of 42 matches...we already know which eight teams will qualify. So we r playing 42 matches just to find out the order of quarter finals.....what the hell ICC..ICC has just proven one more time that they cant get anything right. There are eight teams who can play cricket and we have quarter finals. Icc worldcup is six weeks long and first five weeks will be so boring that u will be thinking if it is more entertaining to watch wet paint go dry. And business end will be done in just over one weeks. I DIDNT WAIT FOUR YEARS TO WATCH SEVEN EXCITING MATCHES(4 quarters, 2semis and a final).After four years, we only get to watch seven exciting matches. Have a look at fifa worldcup.....Every match was so excited. Every match meant some thing. Every match was full of intensity. Quality of football played was of the highest level.There was not even one useless boring match. 42 boring matches..... Imagine if australia or India win their first three matches out of six, they are through to quarter final. Beat two minnows and your through anyway. U can expect a team like ireland to do one upsets, they need three four upsets to go through which is never gonna happen. And if some one is stupid enough to think it can happen, then are we gonna play 42 long boring matches to find out if ireland causes an upset. Why the hell are 14 teams in the worldcup. How many teams should play a worldcup???? You dont decide by urself Icc. Look at fifa,hockey and every sport, they look at how many strong teams play the sport and no of teams they can have without having too much difference between the best and worst side. Fifa had 36 teams in one worldcup in which germany beat saudiarab by 7-0. Fifa swiftly decided to reduce teams to 32 to avoid one sided matches and to keep intensity. We should have 10 teams. Eight regular teams automatically should have gone through and other teams should have played a qualifying tournament to fill in last two slots. After having ten teams. Every team should have played against every other team and top 4 teams qualifies for the semifinal followed by final. This is the best format. 92 worldcup had this format and it is widely considered the best worldcup ever held where all the matches were highly intense.Im all in favour of giving chances to small teams and promoting cricket. But give them chance in some other tournament. Put 16 teams in the champions trophy and 20 20 worldcup. Invite afghanistan, ireland into ur country for five odi series. Go to their country to plays series but dont let them play cricket worldcup until they are ready. For heaven sake use ur brain ICC. Even if ICC made a stupid mistake by having 14 teams, atlease get rid of quarter finals and top two teams should go through straight to semifinals. This will ensure group matches meant something. ICC has proven one more time that every one in ICC is on some cheap Afghan opium.I hope every sane person who loves cricket will join me to condemn this stupid, dumb and retarted move of ICC. Shame on ICC for ruining the cricket worldcup

yes. 14 is too much considering that only 8 (9 if you include one of Ban/Zim) are good enough. But I think ICC should start some kind of an annual tournament/series where teams like Ireland, Cananda, Netherlands etc get some opportunities to play the top teams - they only get such opportunities at the World Cup once every 4 years.

What is the point of 'ODI status' if they dont get to play against the big boys on a regular basis.

Interesting how you said "eight regular teams and Bangladesh.....". That team you so conveniently included in "others" is a test team which has caused some serious upsets in world cups before including beating Pakistan (now of course you can wave that aside saying even Ireland did that, big deal). Coming to the point you raised, stop behaving as if the smaller teams are untouchables. If we want to see the game grow, we have to give the smaller teams places on the big stage. They may not do well, but we can not deny them a place in an event like the WC purely on the assumption that they are worthless (which is what OP seems to imply). If Ireland was not given the opportunity, they could not have beaten Pakistan. If we must exclude them for the sake of entertainment and competitiveness, why not go a step ahead and exclude teams like Pakistan, Bangladesh, New Zealand and West Indies and have a super exciting world cup? How about that entertainment? The world cup is not for your entertainment solely. I would love to see this game spread and the only time these small teams get an opportunity at a big stage is WC. This is the biggest tournament ever and we should have all the teams in there. Some of them will have their lucky days and they will cause huge upsets.
