^well when you are playing away you atleast need something in your favor. The ground staff will make sure the pitch stays the same throughout. Ofcourse there are things like overcast conditions, but atleast pitches will stay same for both the teams

To just hand the toss to the touring team would be ridiculous. Imagine that in India, every team would bat first and just hope the wicket crumbles on the final day. Would be stupid.

Dhoni has captained in 23 Test matches. Won the Toss 7 times, lost 16 times At Home: Won 6 out of 15 times Away : Once out 8 times winning it at Hamilton, NZ P.S: It is unsporting to complain about not winning the toss and use it as an excuse

when you get such pitches where if you loose the toss the match becomes very much lopsided then its not unsporting to complain. This is international cricket and its a shame that we still have pitches where a team that looses the toss is at an immediate disadvantage.

You really think SA would be 6 down if they had to bat today :haha::hysterical::giggle:?

If the toss has such a huge factor on the outcome, then....... Do not get me wrong. This is not to make excuses for the pathetic performance from a "No. 1" team and arguably "the best batting lineup". However, if the result of a match is somewhat dependent on winning a toss which by the way is a luck of the draw, shouldn't there be a more fair way of deciding which team gets to make the decision to bat or field. I am not sure any other game has this much influence from the toss. There ought to be a better way of deciding. In carrom one has to make a play to decide who will strike first since it heavily influences the outcome of a game. Any suggestions on what method can be undertaken to eliminate flipping a freaking coin and resorting to something that takes some skill? P.S. Again, if India has a vaunted batting lineup, they ought to do better than this. To justify their superiority on paper, they need to flourish on tracks like this, or else there will always be question marks.

I really cant believe you guys.... Blaming the toss is possibly the most pathetic thing I have ever seen, take your licks, just take them.
Oh shut your trap man! Read my post, I am not blaming the toss for India's performance. I have already said their performance has been pathetic and do not justify their vaunted batting lineup tag. However, it is a fact that the toss had some influence on the first test and will probably on the second test as well. If a luck of the draw is having major influence on a test, wouldn't it be better to have a better way of judging who makes the first decision to bat or bowl based on skill rather than pure luck. I am probably of the harshest critic when India does not perform well, so do not give me that crap!! :finger:

You questioned the fairness of a coin toss, Exactly what is unfair about a 50-50 coin toss? I actually hoped India won the toss just so you guys would quit moaning about it and making excuses before a ball was even bowled.

Sorry coin toss is just luck of the draw, plain and simple! I am sure there can be better ways of deciding which team makes the decision to bat or bowl based on skill not sheer luck.

Yup do not think SA would be struggling like we did. Simply because we do not have the bowling firepower and this Indian team has simply not validated their "vaunted batting lineup" tag on difficult wickets and against hostile bowling.

Yes the two teams should play a game of quidditch and whoever captures the snitch gets to decide.... What a moronic suggestion, yes lets waste time deciding who wins the toss with a game of skill rather than just flipping the coin and getting the **** on with it.

Although I am not a fan of flipping a coin, but it does not make excuses for India's pathetic performance especially since we are No. 1 and we have the best batting lineup on paper (which can be debated now).

Ok let's see. One team wins the toss, blows away the opposition under trying conditions and when they bat weather/pitch conditions improve and batting becomes easier. Now no one has control over the weather, but to take advantage of the weather/pitch conditions, I think the team has to earn it to make the first decision rather than just flipping a coin. I would be saying that even if India won the last match. Flipping a coin is a easy and old fashioned idea. There needs to be something better. And if my suggestions is moronic, your babble is equally annoying.

The scenario you provided isnt exactly a new one, and not like it is impossible for India to have just got stuck in today and hoped for better conditions tomorrow but no they ****ed it up.

Both teams should start on equal footing and not one having an undue advantage of the weather conditions. And if one gets to enjoy the advantage, then they need to earn it, definitely not by flipping a coin. And yes, India has played poorly so far and definitely have not justified their no. 1 tag. SA is clearly the better team out of the two, even when they came and drew the series in India.
