Rajma Chawal Posted January 1, 2011 Posted January 1, 2011 Let's not forget Ganguly took over the team just after the match fixing crisis. The most important thing we learned to do under Ganguly was not to be afraid when playing overseas, which the current team can do. Ganguly was still hampered by the fact that we did not have a settled opening pair and we had some average keepers at that time. Dhoni is on his way to becoming the most successful Indian captain which is something we should all be happy about seeing as that means we will win lots of matches but Ganguly is the better captain. He is the one who built this team.
vaibhav_delhi Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 Brilliant conclusion :hatsoff: Lol..some folks could not comprehend that there were 2 possibility from that post. **** those idiots.
don_corleone840 Posted January 2, 2011 Author Posted January 2, 2011 ganguly by a mile. he is like the indian allan border dhoni is a good captain with a very high win % but he was handed a great team on a platter. to be honest, even i could captain this indian side. :finger::finger: Dhoni is not only greatest captain of india but probably greatest captain of last two decades in world
vaibhav_delhi Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 ^ask the english, aussies n saffers, they will tell you tht ganguly was an absolute tosser.(which I dont agree btw) Dhoni is respected all across the world, not even talking abt his cricketing achivements.
Dsouza Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 ??? :two_thumbs_up:im a big Dada fan, coz of the way he got in the change in Indian cricket. As all senior players say, he thot them how to win abroad, he gave the confidence to be aggressive out of home. he took the team to World Cup finals after almost 25 years, that too in SA. MSD is good inteligent cricketer & skipper and has a new breed of players with much better exposure to world cricket with IPL etc. He has done well in 20-20 format of the game. Lets give some more time to him and compare. As of now Dada is the best skipper India ever had. :two_thumbs_up:
Sid Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 What a discussion to start a new year with,I saw the same old posters with their same old views :haha:
Andy Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 ^ask the english, aussies n saffers, they will tell you tht ganguly was an absolute tosser.(which I dont agree btw) Dhoni is respected all across the world, not even talking abt his cricketing achivements. I am not sure which 'English' , 'Aussies' you are talking about, During Gangulys Time the Waughs and Hussains rated him very highly as a Skipper, Not just because of his leadership skills but more because of the way he transformed the Side. I do not want to Undermine Dhoni's efforts at all, But so far there is no Comparision between the two just because the situation and Era was different. Ganguly had to make a team from the Scratch with Limited resources and transformed them into Tough Competitors both Home and Away. I am not denying Dhoni cant do that, But he will have to prove that when the situation will come, And that would be only possible when the Legends retire. Till then i would go with a Proven one , hence i rate Ganguly ahead of MSD (as of Now). Its not just about leadership.
Andy Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 What a discussion to start a new year with' date='I saw the same old posters with their same old views :haha:[/quote'] You dislike Ganguly, thats another thing. Nothing to laugh about some of the Views of some old posters. ICF with the old posters active is better than some of the active Newbies.

Andy Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 never said hate Ganguly :headshake:' date='just like MSD MORE :D[/quote'] That is Ok, i have no likes and Dislikes in Indian cricket apart for my Love for Nohit and Jaddu. Still in my View i rate Ganguly ahead as of now.:two_thumbs_up:
Andy Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 It's like those 'comparision' over kill types...chalta hai :winky: Comparison hona hi nehi chahiye, we are blessed to have Ganguly and then Dhoni as Leaders . And so about the Batters, Like VVS, Goddy etc. I dont know why few people need to get into comparision between legends, May be to prove their Heroes beter and Undermine achivements of others?
Sid Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 That is Ok' date=' i have no likes and Dislikes in Indian cricket apart for my [b']Love for Nohit and Jaddu. Still in my View i rate Ganguly ahead as of now.:two_thumbs_up: :woot: I also love them :hysterical:
hari504504 Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 I rate Ganguly as the better captain as well.. until we watch Dhoni lead the greenhorns after the trinity retire.
Sid Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 It's like those 'comparision' over kill types...chalta hai :winky: Still better than Sachin vs anyone thread :giggle:

vaibhav_delhi Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 ^no, it doesnt take away gangs' effectiveness, but he doesnt command respect as dhoni does frm across the world. I am just making an observation based on the comments I read by various people tht how pontings misdemeanour with aleem daar reminded them of gangs. Can even quote links frm an aussie forum. Anyways, dhoni leads by example more than gangs, tactically brilliant, more agile on the field, has marvellous calming influence, much much better cricketing achievements as a captain even at this stage than gangs.

Thats News to me and most on ICF.Next what Tendulkar doesnt command the ammount of Respect that much Dhoni commands? And about Posts from an Aussie forum, They do not like Characters like Gangs , Bhajji etc from Indian Dressing Room. They are pissed off at their sight as they have pawned innumerable times. Steve Waugh was the Leader of Australia for the Most part of Gangulys tenure as the Captain and he had the best words for him from what i know. Regarding Dhoni leading By example Agility i agree with that. Dada lead by agrression and personality. And about having more achivements than Ganguly? I am not sure i can show Ganguly having achived many things which Dhoni couldnt (AS YET) . So lets cut down this unnecesary argument , We can start this argument once when Dhoni's tenure as Leader of India ends, For that we'll have to wait few years.

In his time he was one pf the most respected captains in World cricket because of the way he built a team from scratch and dealt with controversies like match-fixing. Ganguly got a team which did'nt know what winning outside the subcontinent meant and transformed it into a confident side which could win anywhere in the world - that IMO is his biggest achievement as a captain. He also had very few established players in the team (Goddy, Dravid, Laxman, Kumble and for sometime Srinath) and now look at the number of established players in the team - Sehwag, Gambhir,Goddy, Bhajji, Zak, Dravid, Laxman, Yuvi, Raina. Lets see how Dhoni does after Goddy, Dravid and Laxman retire - if he is able to do as well as he's doing currently then only can he be compared with Ganguly.
vaibhav_delhi Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 T20 world cup. Ipl CL T20 attainted and retained test no. 1 ranking for over an yr now 14 test wins only 1 against bangla, only 4 losses. One of the best ever w/l ratio as a captain. Won Numerous odi tournaments. Stronger personality than gangs. Better tactically. Calming influence. Leads by example n performance more than gangs. Tough as nails at all times. Gangs is a very good captain but the fact is , he doesnt stand anywhere close to Dhoni.
