Plus Mumbai and Pune are not immigrant friendly either, at least not for the blue collar immigrants. The thing is, if southies go to any north city, they will try to learn a few words on local language to get around.. on the other hand, most northies take absolutely zero effort to learn the local language and start blabbering in hindi. Only during 2nd or 3rd visit, they ll realize it.

The problem is marathi people are forced to speak in hindi in public.. the biggest problem came in when marathi leaders demanded immigrants to speak in marathi, and not to use hindi.. Still the hostility towards outsiders exists in few places around mumbai and pune..

Southies might speak accented hindi but they make a genuine effort to learn the language. It is borne out of necessity as well because you can't get by using English alone.

You hail an auto in Bangalore and start talking in Tamizh. Are you saying the auto-driver will understand what you are saying to him ? Does everybody in B'lore understand all the southern languages as well as Hindi/English ?

Detonator Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 :cantstop: respond something :dontknow: I m not against mumbai/pune/maharashtra.. mumbai and pune was my second home for few yrs.. it's not the people who are doing it... the leaders provacation is what causing it.. when i went to pune, for the first 1 or 2 months, i faced a lot difficulties there. dude, for eg., a grocery shop walla won't answer properly to an outsider.. I had to ask them 3 or 4 times. they used to throw the money on table in few shops. they want to insult me in some form or other. only after getting to know them, they started behaving well. an autowalla charged me 70 rs in Pune to come from Akurdi station to Bhel chowk :(( well, I didn't spoke to him in Tamil/english but in Marathi (thanks to my frnd)..

So you must be knowing Marathi and Hindi well now.

So I don't get what they post in Hinglish.. it takes some time for me though..
