Any information on them from those in India? Bhargav Bhatt from Baroda has had a monster season - an average of 20 for a left arm orthodox spinner is top notch. Any information on him? Overall, does not look like much to be excited about though.

Yes. List of top wicket takers for the season does not make you feel good about the prospects of bowling in India. Other than the names which outy mentioned Sunil Joshi is also there. So only Deepak Chahar is some name which provides some spark. Rest of them we have been seeing for some time. Check B A Bhatt's profile. He is pretty young 20 yrs and is in his second domestic season only. So might go on to become good in some time.

Most of these pace bowlers struggled to hit 130 kmph in the ranji season. What helped them the most was the fact that most of the Ranji matches in North India are played during peak winter time , helping some of these trundlers look better than they are. The fastest bowler in the domestic circuit has to be Sudeep Tyagi who consistently hit 134-135 kmph mark and at times hit 140 mark in a couple of spells. But he needs to get fitter as he breaks down after every two matches.

Even Balaji averaged 17 couple of seasons back. I think domestic matches are played on clearly substandard and under-prepared pitches.

The unseasonal rains did not help. so Jogibaba, Yadavbaba made merry. I still think we should have tried Pankaj Singh in atleast one game. He was on tour, but never tried and then never selected again.

Till 5 years back, he had hardly played with a cricket ball.

Yeah, Tyagi's fitness levels are pretty bad. He just seems to have a very fragile body. Did you get a chance to watch Pankaj Singh, Narwal, or Bhatt in any of the matches. Also someone mentioned that Dhawan from HP is pretty sharp and has a good action. Have you seen him?

Even though Pankaj Singh has taken bucketful of wickets, the most disappointing thing with him has been the complete lack of improvement as a bowler. Hasn't added any speed at all in last 2-3 years and for someonw who is 6 ft+ and has got a good built, to bowl at an average of 78-79 mph is quite sad. Also speaks voluems about our support structure to groom these upcoming bowlers. Narwal is also in the same speed range and is an honest trier. But depends a lot on the bowler friendly conditions. Bharghav Bhatt has been impressive. Is a very traditional spinner and relies more on his flight and loop. Is quite tall for a spinner and uses the height to his advantage. The only technical glitch in his action was that his action wasn't very consistent especially when bowling long spells. That could be due to lack of strength in his young shoulders. Would be interesting to see how he performs in the upcoming Duleep Trophy matches. Rishi Dhawan looked good in a match they showed on Neo. Another tall young pacer with good physique. But someone who doesn't use much of his left hand to generate pace. If someone can guide him well and help him work on his action, he can be a handful as even with an action that does not look very smooth, he can generate good bounce and movement.
