KKR sign up three Bengal players

Having already bought Manoj Tiwary during the auction in Bangalore, Kolkata Knight Riders have now signed three more Bengal players —— Laxmi Ratan Shukla, Shreevats Goswami and Mohammad Shami Ahmed —— for the fourth edition of the Indian Premier League. While former Bengal captain Shukla was a part of the Kolkata outfit in the last three seasons of the IPL as well, Goswami and Mohammad Shami are the new recruits. Goswami, who is a native of Kolkata, made his IPL debut with the Royal Challengers Bangalore and played for them in the last three editions. The Bengal wicket—keeper batsman is happy to be associated with his home team, saying it is only “fitting to play for my home city, Kolkata.” The 21—year—old, who began playing at the age of 11, had represented Bengal and the country at the U—19 level. He played a crucial role as opener and wicket—keeper during India’s Under—19 World Cup victory in Malaysia in 2008. Mohammad Shami, a medium—pacer, made his Ranji debut for Bengal against Assam in November last year and also represented Bengal in Twenty20s this year. The Knight Riders now have four players from Bengal in their ranks. “We are delighted that in addition to Manoj Tiwary, who we picked in the auction, we have signed three very promising players from West Bengal. This is in line with KKR’s on going commitment to providing a platform for talented players from its catchment area,” KKR’s CEO and Managing Director, Venky Mysore, said. “Our coach Dav Whatmore has been assisting CAB (Cricket Association of Bengal) and working with the U—19 team, with a view to developing the local talent. We will continue to identify and nurture talent from the region,” he added. KKR have also included Mumbai left—arm spinner Iqbal Abdulla and Himachal Pradesh wicketkeeper Manvinder Bisla in their line—up.

Royals retain Dole, Raut; add pacer Samad

Mumbai: Inaugural champions Rajasthan Royals on Saturday retained all-rounder Abhishek Raut and pacer Aditya Dole and signed up paceman Samad Falah for the fourth edition of the Indian Premier League. All the three players have represented Maharashtra in the domestic circuit. Fallah will make his IPL debut if he gets into the final XI in the Twenty20 tournament, beginning on April 8. "Abhishek and Aditya have impressed in the previous editions and are established Royals, whilst Samad Fallah has been attracting our attention with his performances in the domestic season," Sean Morris, CEO, Rajasthan Royals said in a press release. "We are delighted to announce the signings of these players and we look forward to all three players showing the fans their talents when they sport the Rajasthan Royals colours in the IPL," he added. Aditya Dole is a right-arm medium-pacer who has played first-class matches for Maharashtra. His first Ranji Trophy game was against Rajasthan in December 2007 but his career highlight came the following year, when he took 10 for 63 in an innings for Maharashtra in a CK Nayudu Trophy match against Rajasthan. Raut made his first class debut against Tamil Nadu in 2005. His claim to fame was when he steered Rajasthan Royals to a victory over Deccan Chargers when he scored a match winning unbeaten 36 from 23 balls. Fallah is a left arm medium pacer who features in Maharashtra s first class squad. Samad began his successful innings in professional cricket in 2005 with Poona Club. His first class debut was against Himachal Pradesh in Dharamsala in 2007. He has taken over 100 wickets in 24 first class matches with a strike rate of 28.05 and best figures of 8 for 98.

i wonder how MI will even field a valid playing XI :hmmm:
You wonder, because you dont read.
Mumbai have formed a good side for themselves with Suman and Ambati in the fray along with R Sathish, Abu Nechim, Aditya Tare and Ali Mortaza among others. Sachin Tendulkar’s presence in the MI squad is learnt to be the reason for which the players decided to come on board.
