Sachin=GOD Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 where is thilan "the bradman "samarveera:hitler: Sri Lankan selectors have named their final 15-man squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011. Sanath Jayasuriya, Chaminda Vaas and Suraj Randiv are the notable absentees. Captain of Sri Lanka's 2007 World Cup side, Mahela Jayawardena, has been named as the vice-captain. The squad is as follows: Kumar Sangakkara (captain), Mahela Jayawardene (vice-captain), Tillakaratne Dilshan, Upul Tharanga, Thilan Samaraweera, Chamara Silva, Chamara Kapugedera, Angelo Mathews, Thisara Perera, Nuwan Kulasekara, Lasith Malinga, Dilhara Fernando, Muttiah Muralitharan, Ajantha Mendis, Rangana Herath.
girishk14 Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 Thissara perera is gonna be the dark horse in this team.
thongale Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 no Suraj Randiv ? blame sehwag and BCCI:hysterical:Nah, SL fans are not that retarded. Of course our selectors are retarded. hence called SELECTSUCKERS.
thongale Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 There are few passengers in the team. SL will be found out in tough situations. Jayasuriya is rightly left out. Tharanga is a misfit. But performed well. Randiv's absence is a shock. best SL spinner in last year. Mendis never should have been selected. Kapugedara, gives tough competition for Ashraful as the worst batsman in the world. Silva is OKish. Vaas' absence is puzzling. Was easily the best fast bowler SL has. Bowled some breathtaking spells in the premier league matches. Chandimal's absence is . . . My squad would have been: Sanga, Jayawardane, Dilshan, Chandimal, Samaraweera, Mathews, Silva, Tharanga, Perera, Randiv, Murali, Malinga, Kulasekara, Fernando and Vaas
girishk14 Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 Kapugedara, gives tough competition for Ashraful as the worst batsman in the world. I have to agree...Kapu, Ashraful and even Murali Vijay and Clarke have become batsmen that get a place in the squad no matter how miserable they are. They just keep getting chances.
thongale Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 thilan thushara?? he should have been thereHe is out of form. Sprays it around like Peter North. He needs some seious work to return to what he was some time back.
thongale Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 Good squad but I never understood why Sanga is preferred over Mahela as a captain. I find Mahela a lot more cool tempered and captaincy material compared to Sanga.Mahela found it affecting his batting. But I think nothing has changed much. both these work as a unit. When Mahela was the captain Sanga was his deputy. Vaas should have been the captain long ago. A very attacking, innovative captain and beat daylight out of SSC few times which was captained by Mahela. But there are politics that work beneath what we see.
cameron_black Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 i think it unfair to don't include randiv. why is the reason? also vaas. i think vaas did very well in IPL and england county matches.
Sujan Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 would've liked to see Jayasuriya, could've been useful batting PP n also his bowling is quite handy on spin friendly wickets.surely better than Pappugadhera or Samaraweera also Vaas looked good in IPL,maybe shoul've been in for Fernando Its very unfortunate for all cricket fans not to see Sana boy and Vaasy not playing this time around. If at all they didn't have to select these 2, Selector Aravinda de Silva shouldn't have announced them in 30-member squad. Afterall these 2 LEGENDS had a dream farewell playing in WC 2011. What a way to slap on face of 2 legends.. Well done Aravinda, my respect is all gone now..

What a way to slap on face of 2 legends.. Well done Aravinda, my respect is all gone now.. India is treating our legends in the worst way, seriously, do the selectors actually think - that with the world cup so near, these sharmas, vijays and rainas can do what Laxman and Dravid cant? Im sure Ganguly would do a much better job as a replacement opener than Vijay who cant even negotiate mpofu's bowling.
DeadMan Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 SL WC Team selector Aravinda Replies... S: Welcome to Adaderana Glassbox forum where readers can let their voice be heard. In the recent weeks we have featured Mr. Aravinda de Silva, newly appointed Chairman of the National Selection Committee and former Sri Lankan batsman. S: Good evening Mr. De Silva and congratulations on your newly elected position. S: The interview that will follow consists of a few selected questions which our readers have posted on our forum and will be based on their opinions. Here is the complete compilation of what our readers had to say. S: To start off Mr. de Silva, what do you think of Derana’s initiative to bring public’s comments to you? A: Well, as part of the selection committee I think that it is important and useful to know what everyone thinks as well. It is not only selection committee’s or team management’s thinking but also to get a wide range of thoughts towards what we are thinking is something useful. S: The next question is that there is much controversy about whether Sanath Jayasuriya should still be playing in the team. On one side of the debate is his maturity and experience while on the other side of the issue is giving an opportunity to younger players. What do you think about this? Should he still be playing in the World Cup? A: Well, I think as I have always said, we haven’t written him off. If you think about giving an opportunity to younger players, I must say that there is enough and more time for us to do that in the coming years. World Cup is our main focus. Definitely Sanath will be on the minds of all the selectors until the World Cup for sure. S: If Sanath does perform and he is selected for the 2011 World Cup team, what kind of role would he take? Would he be an opening batsman, or bowler or middle-order batsman or what? A: Well, he is capable of handling any of those roles. I think the ultimate goal is to make sure that we give him a role which is going to be very useful to the side. I think that is something which we will have to discuss with the team management and see where we should fit him in, if he does. S: And what do you think about Sanath entering politics while still playing? A: Well for your previous question, I also want to say that not only Sanath, Chaminda Vaas is another guy whom we are really looking at for the World Cup and keeping a close eye on him as well. So, at the time if the need arises, for sure we will be looking at the contribution towards the team. On your question about Sanath entering politics, I think it’s a personal decision and I wish him good luck in his future in that aspect. S: Alright. What can you say about the coaching of the team? Will there be any changes made? A: Well, I can’t say any changes, as far as the current lot goes, they have an agreement until the World Cup. I am sure they will carry on till then. S: What do you think about giving more chances to our youngsters such as Dinesh Chandimal and Mahela Udawatta? A: Well as I said, there is so much time, years ahead of them. I think we shouldn’t rush them too early and ruin their confidence. We should let them settle down at A level where they are playing some good cricket, get more consistency and experience behind them. And obviously, these are guys who are looking good for the future. S: Why do you think there aren’t many all-round players in the Sri Lankan team? A: Well, we have a few and we are hoping to be looking for more to really help balance the team. And that’s just one area we are focusing on at the moment. S: And what are you doing to improve the situation? A: Well, nothing much I can do, the only thing I can do is to go around and look for talent and that’s what we are doing. S: And for the 2011 World Cup who will be the permanent opener? And what combination do you think would work best? A: Well, that I think we have to wait and see, it’s a long way off. The current two openers are the ones we are looking at but obviously, if things don’t work out we have to look at another option. S: What do you think of Murali’s retirement? Was there any influence from the selection committee on his decision? A: Well, there was no influence whatsoever apart from the fact that we were hoping that he will continue to play for a longer period and also we definitely told him that we require him for the World Cup so that we make sure that he doesn’t call it a day in one-day cricket. And it was his own decision to quit after one test but we would have wished him to play the entire series but unfortunately that’s his decision and we respect that. S: It is rumored that Murali wasn’t included in the team for the Asia Cup Final and he reacted to this by saying that he would retire in this case. Is there any truth to this rumor? A: Well there is no reason for anyone to think or feel that way. Rumors are there but see, just because someone, even if someone is left out for a game doesn’t mean that’s the end for a player and they have to retire. I think the whole idea is to make sure that we have the right combination for the right surface and for the right team to compete in that game. That’s what I think. S: How are you planning to handle the inevitable political involvements which will pressurize you? A: I haven’t had any of that to deal with so at the moment I am assured. S: Finally, 1996 World Cup was hosted by the South Asian region. And yet again, the 2011 World Cup will be hosted by the South Asian region. As a player who brought home the World Cup in 1996 and as the head of the Selection Committee, do you think we can win the World Cup 2011? A: Well, that’s the only reason why I took this job over. I seriously feel that the side is capable of doing it and I think we just have to work together and try and see and support the cricketers to try and achieve this goal. S: That brings us to the end of our interview. Thank you so much Mr. De Silva for taking the time to meet with us today and speak to our readers. Thank you.

jhakati Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 No backup batsmen.Should have been Nohit instead of Chawla. exactly not a single back up batsman!! there is no need to have so many fast bowlers in the sub continent
Zap_Brannigan Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 exactly not a single back up batsman!! there is no need to have so many fast bowlers in the sub continent But Dhoni will most likely go with 3 pace bowler + 1 spin bowler in the playing 11. So 4 pace bowlers is good. Its that extra spinner and that too someone who hasnt played for India in quiet a while that is bad.
Roshanrocks Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 brilliant no backup keeper Dhoni is invincible :iloveicf:
jhakati Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 Best possible squad. No suprises really. A legspinner is always handy to have' date=' but he is a decent bat as well[/quote'] he is a crap legspinner if u remember how younis khan smashed for six after six
