And btw WI were a pretty weak players of spin bowling.Since Richards in particular is discussed here in his debut series versus India in India Richards hit 192* facing Pras, Bedi and Venkat and has a career average of over 40 in Tests played in India and Pakistan which had some quality spinners at the time Richards played. Hardly a measure to indicate that Viv is a pretty weak player of spin.

In 80s India did not have a decent spinner when Richards hit peak. Only Pakistan had one.

Bublu, can you please list some of the innings of Richards you watched live and how old were you at that time? Do you know that pitches at Viv's time were uncovered? No, they weren't. The last uncovered pitches were used in England some time around early to mid 70s. All other countries were using covered pitches from around early to mid 60s. What about facing Lillee and Thomson without a damn helmet, and the duo hurling bouncers after bouncers at him? The duo has been described as the most fearsome ever in Test cricket history by WISDEN. And Richards needed to see a shrink after facing Lillee and Thompson in their prime.

On the tour of Australia in 1975, a young Viv Richards hardly scored in the first half of the tour and the team management decided to drop him. Dr. Webster observed that Richards used to get nervous particularly when he was awaiting his turn to bat. His level of anxiety was high in the dressing room and it was more when he went out to bat. Dr. Arthur Jackson and Webster taught Richards how to sort out that problem by concentrating in certain ways. Now since few ppl rated Pathan higher than Sehwag and there are few others think Sehwag greater than Viv, I would say Pathan better than Sir Viv. Any takers?:winky:

P.S:-Remember this is the claim for an all-time great Test batsman. The scrutiny will be the tough.

But I can make a darn good case for how great a batsman Miandad is and counted upon when the chips are down and the team needs a player to bail them out.

Really .Was not even considered all time XI team selected by cricinfo. Had pretty mediocre record against WI and OZ. Always struggled against Willis. Enuf said.

WI and OZ had 2 best bowling unit during his time. Fact is no one considers Miandad an ATG batsman.
