Have just finished reading the whole pdf document. Normally I'd have difficulty reading a 102-page document but it's all very non-legalese but still containing the eloquence that legal documents are known for. I agree that the defence lawyers' cases seem extremely weak. It is almost like they felt they were playing a home game, where they are probably used to a combination of emotion, lies and ignorance to get their way. Or maybe they knew they were trying to defend the indefensible but kept at it anyway. Butt's claim that he was being "teased" by Majeed with those text messages and phone calls has got to be one of the most ridiculous pleas for innocence. Although, towards the end, the tribunal indicated that the ICC needs to have more flexibility in its code to allow special cases (obviously hinting at Aamer) to get different treatment, it was overall very correct and fair IMO. Personally, I think they should all have got life. Especially since none of them has ever admittted guilt or shown remorse. But for now, I'll take five years.
