desi pride 1234 Posted March 5, 2011 Author Posted March 5, 2011 Do you honestly believe Yusuf and Yuvi cannot bowl 10 overs between them? India's problem is not part time bowling. I am repeating it 1000th time. India's problem is lack of wicket taking options. We don't have attacking bowlers who can pick up wickets. I don't mind Yuvi' date=' Yusuf going for few extra runs as long as the other 4 do their job. Problem against England was barring Zaheer in the late end everyone was crap. If a team manages to beat the heck out of those 6 they sure would beat the crap out of Raina as well. It is not like Raina has a magic delivery.[/quote'] i agree. raina is not a wicket taking option. but what will u do if yusuf and yuvi are taken to cleaners? u have to look for someone who can fill these overs. u just cannot keep on giving overs to yuvi when he struggles. did u forgot raina's last over against kings 11 punjab when yuvi cudnt hit raina for runs. he is capable of filling some overs. we dont have allrounders, and we cannot afford 5 bowlers as well. so he is the best option we have right now. so its not a sin to drop kohli to give dhoni a little bit of bowling option
desi pride 1234 Posted March 5, 2011 Author Posted March 5, 2011 Raina himself would be amused at this suggestion :haha: . He may even feel slighted. raina would have shared the overs with yuvi if yusuf was not picked. same cannot be said for kohli.

Yuvraj is far more established bowler than Raina. What if India suddenly collapses and Raina fails to deliver with the bat? Based on current form I would bet on Kohli to bail India out more than Raina.
vvvslaxman Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 raina would have shared the overs with yuvi if yusuf was not picked. same cannot be said for kohli. So basically he can only replace Yusuf not Kohli. Would you drop Tendulkar for Raina? Gambhir and Viru can open the innings?

In current form Kohli is better than any Indian batsman let alone Raina. And Raina is still recovering from the miserable failures in the Test series against SA where all fast bowlers gave him a fair degree of work over. His shot selection has gone poorer. His form is kinda iffy. Yuvraj is not fully back to form. DHoni is yet to come back to form. (don't take his 100 at chennai seriously), Yusuf hit or miss. Any top order collapse means India will have no one to fall back on with a lower order that is iffy in form.

The fact that they bowled so well for a bit was itself an achievement for their primary job is to support the bowlers, not to outdo them. And may I know what adding ANOTHER off-spinner in Raina add to India?

Unless Kohli gets into a rut there is no way Raina going to claim Kohli's place. We can disagree all day. In the end what you say is not going to happen if Kohli continues his run.

They won't tinker too much.

Sachin=GOD Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 Drop Yusuf and bring in Raina. The idea of dropping Kohli is absolutely foolish - the guy is among the very best batsmen in the World on current form and we've got people who say he still should be dropped :wall:
spectre Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 I see Raina as a better bowler than Yusuf Pathan. But the kind of miracles that Yusuf Pathan can produce with the bat, Raina cannot do it as much as Yusuf can. But Yusuf will always be a hit or miss option. And he is not effective coming in at slog overs, he needs time to settle down and take on the attack. If I was to bank on someone setting a big target or chasing down one, and I need to send him in the 40th over, that will be Raina. Yusuf to be effective should be played out in middle order, in SC wickets. He can be the most dangerous there.
Jersey #10 Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 Raina bats lower down the order and still averages freakishly in upper 30s. Kohli has probably the best spot to bat at. He scores very slow for 3/4 of his innings and then takes few riscks in the end and then gets out soon.
