desi pride 1234 Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 sehwag & sachin dont bowl. y didnt the team management think of using raina as a part time bowling option. just to give an another option to dhoni. obviously he is not gonna use virat as a bowling option, so y not play raina instead of virat who is a good player on subcontinent pitches.

Kohli is our most in-form batsman and highest ranked batsman and you want him to be replaced by Raina??? And that too not because of Raina's batting but his bowling??? vvvslaxman Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 No way Kohli should be dropped. He is an all rounder stroke player. He is good against spin, pace, bounce lot of other things. Yes he may not hit sixes straight away coming in at 49th over consistently. But those occasions are rare.

We will have an extra bowling option + UV and Dhoni will come up the order + we will have two finishers instead of one so if either one clicks, we can win matches
zen Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 Let's not forget that if we run into teams like Aus or SA in KO w/ one of their bowlers having a good day, we need a few solid batsmen in the top 4 .... You can't judge how things will go based on performances in 2 games. Sehwag, even though one of the best batsmen, is not that consistent in ODIs, so we need the 3 solid and consistent batsmen, i.e. Sachin, GG and Kohli in the top 4.

But we have seen the performances of these 2 players in the recent past and I don't see Kohli just "slightly ahead" of Raina. Kohli is miles in front of Raina at the moment as his recent form and world ranking suggests. Raina is not a bad player but we need a solid player at no. 4 in case we lose 2 early wkts. I am a big fan of Raina and would have opted for Raina even around 6 months back but at the moment there's no way Raina can move ahead of Kohli.

He has nothing special except the pause he has.

Our batting is clicking and we don't need to change the batting order just so that we can have Raina - who himself is not a specialist bowler. The downside is that we may end up impacting our batting adversely while trying to fix the bowling.

Over hyped player = Kohli Kohli's performance over the last year or so states otherwise. His batting average is 45+, he's ranked no. 2 in the odi rankings and scored a century in his world cup debut. How is he "over hyped" player? In fact he looked the best Indian batsman along with Pathan against SA in SA.

He must be very lucky to come in at #4 and #3 when Sachin is not there. BIG DEAL he scored a debut century in the World cup on a express highway style pitch. No doubt he has been good and a steady player. I support him all the way and would love to see him captain team India but he is just not needed in the team right now. We would have a perfect team without him with a very good bunch of part time spinners and hitters with the inclusion of Suresh. He will take the spot of Sachin or whoever that retires first.

In fact Raina was the front runner for the world cup but Kohli forced his selection by his consistent performances. The guy has performed consistently and fully deserves a spot in the lineup.
