Never thought would say so as he comes across a boorish individual who thinks he's bigger than the game, and he could have handled the Pak-Eng Test fiasco much better where the match was forfeited, but he actually got this one right. Murali may be one of the nicest persons and human beings around but he does indeed chuck. As for the lab testing and how he was cleared, anyone can "clear" the test in a controlled environment in a lab where there's no pressure and no batsman facing you and no match on the line. But in a crucial world cup game with batting side needing 90 odd to win with 15 overs to go where a key wicket can get you the game, it would be a different scenario. The whole chucking rule itself is flawed now. Now a bowler throw as much as he likes and the umpires are literally powerless to stop him. So a bowler can throw to his heart's content and win a crucial game, let's say a world cup final and the best the umpires can do is report the bowler after the game is over. But by then the damage is done and the match's over! The rule was pretty simple till the recent past and it worked a charm for so long but because of Asian lobby (BCCI included), Murali got away and I suspect that wouldn't have been the case if he were a windies, SA or an English bowler.

He has a round-arm slingy action similar to Thomson and Malinga. If Tait chucks so does Malinga and Thomson will have to be branded as a chucker as well.
Manny_Pacquiao Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 he definitely chucks but nobody can be bothered to call him out on it anymore because he has too many wickets and has been in the game for too long. plus he is a superstar of sri lankan cricket and alienating a cricket-playing country is the last thing a small sport like cricket needs but u can bet your bottom dollar that we wont be seeing another bowler like him. by that i mean with the same action. he just wont be allowed to bowl.

I think you could compare cricket only with other team sports like soccer, basketball, volleyball, rugby, hockey etc. and not with the individual sports. Cricket easily comes second in the world, it has ~1.5billion followers in the world and is played in most of the continents...

In all team sports of the world, except soccer, only 6-7 countries are good , and other countries are considerably low in playing standard and competitiveness....

Basketball is still followed much more globally than cricket. And if you compare how passionately cricket is followed in India or subcontinent then no sport will come close.

Ilarum Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 Its a farce that this chucker has been allowed to bowl all throughout his career. I dont care what the rule book says. Infact, Murli should be taken as a reference point for chucking and rules for chucking should be devised based on his combined bending angle's of shoulder, elbow, and wrist. If Murli is not a chucker, then no other bowler in the world can be called one. And ofcourse, I have got nothing against him. There you go.
